I usually top with miracle whip, a slice of cheese and a piece of lettuce. What are your tricks to get some mileage out of this working man's lunch?

American cheese, slab of tomato fresh from the garden, salt and pepper on the tomato, lettuce, plenty of Miracle Whip.

Pretty damn certain if most in here saw how bologna was made, and from what, they would never eat it again!!

I ate bologna sandwiches when out working in the boonies, also ham, salami, and turkey lunch meat sandwiches.

Load it up. Cheese slice, lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno, mustard and/or mayo, and, if you're feeling particularly fancy, put some thin slices of avocado on it. Make a big fat sandwich that is mostly NOT bologna.

Which brings the question, why are you making bologna sandwiches now, unless you're simply adjusting your taste for the coming Brandon great depression, where we will be glad to be eating shit food instead of ze bugs.

Only with lettuce and tomato as well. If no lettuce and tomato are available I go with mustard.

The local supermarket had a BOGO special on Eckrich. The sammies are fast to make and hit the spot every once in a while. :yesnod:

And a brats lover, and a good Italian sausage lover.

The perfect dog. Mustard and onions. Or mustard onions chile and cheese. Brats and Italian sausage has to have mustard and anything else you want to put on it. Oh ya, a good french roll

I just use mustard and sliced bologna these days, it's quick and easy, I'm all about that :D

Been a while but I used to make a spread that I loved to eat. Not sure what you'd call it? It's been that long since I ate it  Can probably find it online, gimmie a sec... Yeah, it's just called a "ground baloney sandwich" although some apparently refer to this as "baloney salad" (probably those goofy southerners ;)).

It's made using ring baloney, miracle whip, onions, and pickles. Easy to search. Probably as many recipes as there are cooks, search up one that looks good to you. Mine would end up almost looking about like this -

Same way I make tuna fish sandwiches as it turns out :yesnod:

One of the recipes I saw while searching said hotdogs can be substituted in place of balogna for the spread. Never tried this myself but it sounds interesting. I might give that a try one of these days using those jalapeno flavored hotdogs I like to buy

Sounds like “Oscar Meyer Sandwich Spread” anybody remember that? Conflicting Internet info says it was discontinued in 2015 but this link appears to show it is still available.

I don't particularly care for baloney that much, but love it like this:

Go to your favorite deli and ask them to slice some baloney for you, around 1/2" thick or so, so you have a nice chunk of meat.

Get your favorite rolls or bread for sammies.

Saute the meat along with whatever you like: Onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc.

Toast the bread if you prefer, build the sammy and top with ketchup, mustard, whatever you like.

As for tuning, Yaddy's the expert on that. :Jeff '79:

Always get bologna and mortadella from the counter. For hot sandwiches, I like a 1/2" slice clipped and fried dry, with grilled onions and horseradish mustard.

For cold, I like 1/4" slice with sharp cheddar slice and crunchy peanut butter. Yep, it's freaking great.

Both have their strengths and uses. Devilled eggs taste weird unless prepared with Hellman's Real. Any deli meat sammy is best with Miracle Whip. Non German potato salad is at its best when a half and half mix is used. (try it next time, it is REALLY good!)

You're comparing Oscar Meyer pack bologna to real bologna made by a sausage house. Do you eat Buddig lunch sliced turkey for Thanksgiving? Have you ever had world-class braunschweiger? Were you pissed off when great pate went away in the US because someone felt bad about obese geese?

There are those of us who enjoy the flavor of offal, and those that don't. Same as sausage. I've never had one I hated, but I've had a few that were interesting.

4 slices beef bologna
Tablespoon of bacon grease or Crisco
Pinch crushed garlic
Crisp the bologna on both sides in the grease garlic mix
Add pinch of salt
Remove and blot with a paper towel
Roll each slice around a sweet pickle and use a toothpick to hold the wrap.
Throw all this away and go get a McRib

First I toast white bread. Then I put Mayo on both halfs and put the baloney on one half. On the other half I add bacon, some lettuce, and some tomato. Then I take the baloney off the other half an throw it in the garbage, and then put the two halves together....a perfect baloney samich....:D
