View Full Version : How much time should one spend while in the shower showering

It now appears, based on the majority of posts in my massive NO TO SHOWERING thread, I may have to concede.

Should, and that is not definitive, I consider amending my hygieneial protocol, what is a minimal time spent showering in which all objectives can be checked-off, I am currently at 180 seconds max.

Usually, to expedite things, I also clear my nasal passages and empty my bladder and rinse out the eye goop, (if I am feeling flexible I bite off a few toenails) while using the Old Spice 4-in-1 miracle liquid,,, is there anything else I can add.

My usual shower time is about three minutes, unless there is wifey-mandated trimming to be done.

Let me know, your candid comments are always appreciated!!

Lastly, does anyone play music while showering, I think this would be a calming component I would consider adding.

If you play music in the shower, you're gay.

5-6 min is all you should need unless female companionship if present. Like the old saying.....anything longer and you're playing with yourself.

I can watch TV from the shower. I go in when the traffic is on and out when the weather is over.

It is based on how good of an imagination you have

I average about twenty minutes. The 80 gallon hot water tank doesn't last much longer than that.

If the back hurts it can be a long shower... Especially during colder months. Summer showers are very quick. On demand water heater so i can shower for an hr if wanted to.

That's musical masturbation.

For me, it's maybe two minutes. In CA, we have always had droughts and I've been a water miser since the '70's. That said, during hot weather, I will shower twice a day.

Serious question:

It appears many in here spend about two minutes a day in the shower, so if one, use me as an example, showers for 10 minutes on one day, I am good for five days??

:iagree: This. My summer showers are all business. Winter showers with lots of hot water can take longer.

I shower for several minutes per advice from my Dr. It helps with the arthritic pain I have in my neck and back.

20 mins +- when she joins me

Recommend Dove for men body wash with 0.13% benzalkonium chloride or benzethonium chloride antibacterial. If you are showering 180 seconds per 3 day weekend, highly recommended.

That's how I was until my youngest moved out and left behind a bottle of scented body wash. Kinda nice. Still wash with bars these days but follow up with coconut scented softsoap. I smell wonderful :D

Probably ten minutes. If I've been painting or under a car, then longer.

Yadkin tip of the day: one of those blue Scotch Brite pads works great for cleaning latex paint off your hands. :yesnod:

Brutal but I've done worse.
I want the BZK antibacterial agent (0.13 benzalkonium chloride, triclosan, or similar) and preferred liquid to bars because liquids leave less scum in the shower.
Triclosan became market victim of popular rumor it might cause cancer.
FDA/FTC decided some years ago that manufacturers could no longer market liquid body washes as "antibacterial" unless they filed paperwork ($$) that proves the product does indeed kill bacteria, AND that there is some significant health benefit for having done so.* Antibacterial body washes disappeared for about 10 years. So I started using 64 oz jugs of Dial antibacterial hand soap for everything. Then covid hit, I suppose, and bets were off. BZK also kills covid, so BZK re-appeared in liquid body washes labeled as antibacterial. Who knows what was the actual cause/effect going on here.

* Any kind of soap/detergent will help wash bacteria off the skin and send it down the drain. Maybe 99% effective, we'll say. But if you want 99.9% effective, you may need something that kills remaining bacteria that hangs on to skin. Is there a real benefit? I can't be sure, but I err on side of death to bacteria.

....What Happens If You Shower Too Much?
Showering too often can affect the barrier function of the skin. Healthy skin has a natural layer of oil and bacteria that help keep it from drying out.

Excessive exposure to soap and water—especially hot water, may strip away the skin's protective layer, which can cause the skin to become dry, flaky, and itchy. This can be particularly problematic for people with skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.7

...

Never heard that but I've seen scientific research showing absorption through the skin interferes with electrical signals enough to be responsible for irregular heartbeat.

It's a matter of exposure limits. Everyone has different sensitivities to chemicals. Probably no big deal if you're just using it to wash your hands. Showering with it is a different story. And it's not just in soap, anything you buy that's marketed as anti-bacterial (socks, underwear, and pillow cases for example) also contain this chemical which will lengthen exposure times.

I only use handmade bar soap. My wife makes it from a blend of oils, lye, and water. She has a huge assortment of essential oils that she uses to scent some of it. I like the tea tree scent myself.

Rough morning, was up at 6, about 5 hours sleep, hung out with doggies for a few hours, neither would poop, did three walks each, running late so shower time was less than 10 but I think I touched all areas of concern.
Did the quick face shave in under three minutes, helps to have a new razor.

Based on above, I am good for two or three days,,,
