Maybe Ive been living in a cave, but.... while I have heard of them, I never even gave a thought to buying one. Then I saw "Mr. Food" on my local news doing a recipe using one and he raved about them. So, while at my local wally world doing some shopping I decided to get one. Pretty much middle of the road cost wise, but what a great investment!

I imagine it would be good for a family, but as a single guy, not having to heat up a whole oven for just one meal is a blessing in itself. But the amount of time to cook something is on an average less than 15 minutes and it comes out perfect!

I just posted in the Sabrett thread about cooking up some Itialian sausage. Took only 10 minutes, no stink and no heating up the whole kitchen. Also so easy to clean!

You guys proly already know all this...but Im too busy working on projects to discover easy cooking methods....:D

Neighbors burned half their house down using one of those. At least that's what I believe she was using.

Mississippi usually takes a decade or more to catch up with the real world. Two decades ago people starting using microwaves there.

Mayyyybe if it had never been cleaned and it somehow started a grease fire from all the grease buildup on the heating element, but I doubt it. These things smoke like crazy before being dangerous, and considering you aren't cooking things for enough time where you'd leave your house and leave it unattended, I can't imagine a scenario where it would've caused an unattended fire.
Only other explanation is power cord failure cause they chained some dodgy power strips or something like that which wouldn't be exclusive to air fryer but the necessary factor is leaving it unattended.

Nope I was standing outside when they fire dept threw whatever it was out the front door smoldering still. I'm 99% sure it was an airless fryer. Why not 100%? Because I wasn't using it and the lady was in a panic so I didn't push the issue. It was about 4 years ago.
Guess they did not have an extinguisher or she didn't know where it was(home owners sister caused the fire).

Why would you continue to push a hearsay comment when you have no real idea what it was or how it caught on fire? Perhaps it was an air fryer but perhaps the lady was a pig and never cleaned it? I would think that with your limited knowledge of how, why or what happened, your post is irrelevant to this discussion. :yesnod:

If you’re into home made fries, a teaspoon of oil is all that’s needed. Great way to do French fries. Better than the oven and no mess of a deep fryer

When you pick up fries from a fast food place and you get home and they're warm to luke warm a fryer will heat them up just like when they made them.

Damn straight it does. When the cheese melts and hits the frying pan and burns a little, it’s a delightful experience.

We had one - hated it. But we were trying to use it in place of a deep fryer. Replaced it with a 240v commercial deep fryer.

I use a cast iron skillet. Works great. Not soggy, not rubbery. Of course, I have one of those deadly natural gas stoves.....

I also use a 1 gallon deep fryer for Tempura veggies and calamari and prawns, scallops, and fish and chips. The key is very hot oil so it's crisp and not soggy.

You only live once. Deep fried in oil just tastes better. :)

It's a turbo convection oven which is in turn just an oven with a fan, and ovens are just space heaters in a box

The grocers here offer the cook it yourself pies. I like those, because I dress them up, adding tomatoes or sauce, extra cheese, and toppings the way I like them.....loaded with jalapenos, mushrooms, onion, olives, etc. I should probably just learn to make the dough and just do it from scratch.

And +1 for reheat in toaster oven the next day. Microwave is fast, but not nearly as good.

I haven't ordered a take out pizza in years.

I had a decent sized countertop convection oven for many years. I kept in garage and used it alot during the blazing summer months here to cut heat load. Had a broiler function also. Wasn't very expensive and worked very well. French fries were vey good cooked in it as came out nice and crisp.
