My car is at the dealer for a while and rented this Chevy Colorado. Although it appears nice, it rides like a fkn tank. Not sure if it was designed this way for rental purposes or not.

If you are considering one, pass on it or better go on a decent test ride

No big deal. Retired so just another weekend/week. Doing ribeye steaks and shish kabob veggies Monday. Wild Salmon on Sunday.

Staying in town due to forest fire smoke up in Nevada City. Gas prices went up $1 per gallon in the last 20 days. $5.35 for E-10 87 drizzle. Thanks, Democrats. Thanks for letting us know fossil fuels are evil. And that if we use them, we are, too.

I think I may be single for three days, so:

1) sleep in until 6:00ish
2) get up and walk dogs for morning pees
3) feed dogs first breakfast
4) walk dogs for poop
5) playtime in backyard with dogs
6) go grocery shopping
7) dogs get second breakfast
8) detail cars
9) walk dogs for midday pee
10) feed doggies mini-lunch
11) eat lunch while watching a crappy CFB game
12) take an well-earned hour nap
13) thaw out some beef for dinner
14) more playtime with doggies
15) start making dinner, probably some green to start
16) feed doggies dinner, give them some chicken and rice atop kibble
17) finish dinner with the hope the dogs do not go into mooch mode
18) take Dolly for poop walk, Ringo needs to wait as too many other on the streets
19) head to garage for workout
20) chat with the neighbor, he drinks Buds and I lift weights while solving all the world's issues
21) head back in to find a good war, mafia or cartel documentary
22) walk Ringo now that the street is clear
23) put both dogs in backyard for final pee
24) hit the hay for another quality five hours

I rented trucks for a year to test and make a decision. The Fords couldn't do a burnout, and I am still concerned about Chevy engine problems. Ford & Chevy didn't move right with leaf springs. The Ram got my heart with the interiors and suspension. Having rear coilovers makes a BiG difference.

One thing I liked about the F-150's transmission was that it had 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive modes.

The rear coil suspension provides a very comfortable ride. It does limit the hauling and towing capacities and really makes the truck more SUV like than the other trucks.

Here's some BS for you. As you may recall, on 8/14 I had an accident on my bike from hitting a deep temporary manhole the city left in a bike lane as they were in the process of doing some major road work and repaving. In addition to a concussion I ended up with a broken wrist, elbow and some ribs, really been tough.

On 8/21 I sent a complaint into the city concerning the situation and explained my trip to the hospital and my subsequent injuries. On 8/22 they sent crews out and filled every deformity on the street for about a mile starting with the one I hit. They still have not and will not respond to me personally, probably on the advice of their legal folks.

Thinking it's time to lawyer up. What says VBOT?

Yes, do. I was hurt a couple of years ago when the city removed a mail box that was bolted to the sidewalk but left the studs sticking up about an inch. I hit one with my toe, ran off balance for 20 feet, and took a header on the pavement. Tore my pants and skinned my knee. I wanted a $500 settlement and they told me to pound sand. Whatever. This past winter, I drove into an unseen deep pothole in my old pickup and broke a leaf spring. I filed a claim and the city wanted documentation, so I photographed the pothole, the broken spring, and gave them a copy of the bill for a new leaf spring and labor to install it. They compensated me the $574 that the total cost was. I was shocked, but pleased. You actually got seriously injured, so I would get legal assistance and go from there.

The city has sovereign immunity from just about anything. You might, MIGHT be able to collect if a city vehicle had hit you. Injury and damage from a pothole? No dice.

Edit: I see that you have proof the city was notified of the dangerous situation twice before the incident. That MIGHT change things. Still, it's a big hurdle to overcome.

Not a pothole. They made a temporary pavement repair from laying new water pipes and intentionally left a 6 - 8 inch deep, 12 inch around manhole in a bike lane.

That has crossed my mind as well, but to leave that kind of a hazard intentionally in a bike lane seems a bit negligent.

Should you win, your health insurance company would subrogate to collect back what they spent on your care, if they found out that you had successfully sued the city.

Just for fun and excitement today I purchased a ton of chestnut sized coal for the upcoming winter. The Farmer's Almanac is predicting a cold winter for PA.

Since my little aluminum 4 x 8 trailer has a 1400 lb capacity, it was two trips each 1000 pounds of 20 , 50 pound bags.

So my one ton actually was 3 tons of moving. Into the trailer, onto the hand truck and then onto the pile in the front of the covered basement under the front porch.

I have about 3 ton for the Harman insert

I've been burning coal since 1990, although I use wood going into winter and coming out of the other end. I buy it in bulk, good hard PA anthracite, nut.

I used to get 1,500 lbs. in my Tacoma at a time but I sold that last fall, first time without a pickup since around 1976. :( I got the coal delivered last winter, cost extra but I don't care about that. I go through around 3 tons per season.

I hate being dependent on someone else, so I got this trailer a few weeks ago from Tractor Supply, and built the wood sides for it. I'm hoping I can haul 800 maybe 1,000 lbs. behind my Mazda CX5 if I have to on occasion, but would have most of it delivered.

What are you paying per ton? Two years ago it was about $240, last year it jumped to $420, I see it has dropped a bit to $405 right now. I asked the guy last year and he said the price jump was mostly because of our proxy war with Russia via Ukraine and Europe needing our coal, etc.

Not sure the exact location where this comes from in PA, but it could be close to 200 miles away, maybe more, and that certainly adds to the cost. How far away are you from the mine? One of my cousins lives near Wilcox PA and there are soft coal mines not too far away -- where he gets his from, he used to go right to the mine with his pickup. He's 80 now, so probably not doing that anymore, ha.

I have a hand-fed Hitzer stove that I bought in 2002, works great.

No, its way past time. Should have called a lawyer from your hospital bed.

When your dealing with a goverment entity realize they have all sorts of bullshit laws to protect them. The sooner you get a good shyster working on it the better. In that case the more shyster the lawyer the better, a hungry, young, new Jewish lawyer for the win.--:hurray:

Note the term Jewish lawyer is a well know term of respect when used that way.

Just so happened that a friend down the street who is a lawyer caught me out front last night and we talked a bit. Apparently there are three things that would be working against the city if I did anything. First is they were notified before my accident about the hazard, second is the fact they repaired the issue the day after I complained and told them what happened and third is I just found out they waived my bill with the city for the ride to the hospital on their ambulance.

Not looking to get paid, I just want to make a point. This road has been a problem with constant changes due to different phases of their project for over a year now.

Every time I'm that prepared, it is a sure-fire recipe for a mild winter. :yesnod:

Like I posted, get healed and move on. It’s not worth the time and hassle.

I tripped on a bad sidewalk at a rest stop on I-10. Hurt my shoulder pretty badly and fractured/bruised my rib. Per my doc.

When it's below zero outside I like to sit in the living room in my t-shirt. If I have to put a long-sleeved shirt on I get pissed. The only reasonable way to keep it that warm is with coal.

If I had to burn wood at those temps it would be a gigantic PITA. To hold an overnight fire I would have to feed it hickory, oak, ironwood, etc. and pack it in like sardines, using split only. Way too much trouble. With coal, I come down in the morning and the kitchen will be 78-80°, still plenty of fire left, I often won't feed it again til afternoon.

My job as a kid growing up was to keep the coal bucket that sat next to the fireplace filled. Used to have to go out and trudge through 20" deep snow down to where the swing sets were, find the coal pile and try to scrape enough snow off it so I could fill the bucket with coal chunks. Most were softball size if I recall correctly. We burned logs in the fireplace but augmented it with coal for some additional heat.

These days we have an old Fisher double-door wood burning stove in the basement. Gets so hot we've had to open windows upstairs. Can throw a cast iron skillet on the top too. Fireplaces throughout the house as well (living room, master bedroom, office), but those are more for ambiance then heat.

I needed to eat healthier and my brother who is 65 and looks 85 , needs to get weaned off of sugar and salt. So I found a kitchen that makes premade meals and have been sampling their menu. The mom and daughter team looks to be Mexican but not certain but anyway their meals are incredibly good and clean, especially to fight inflammation that plagues my brother, anyway, to make long story longer, they make zucchini chicken enchiladas, the chicken is soaked in chipotle and the thinly sliced zucchini wraps the chicken and it’s soaked in Serrano pepper , then you get brown rice and mixed green veggies on top. As you can imagine, it’s tastes incredible until the ****ing lights go out from all the peppers . I ate one bite and had to put it down until I could round up some sour cream to help put some of the fire out. My brother likes it all so far and hopefully will stay on track to get his mobility back.

the other one, painted brown (because that's what i had handy) is for a shooting buddy, it'll be his personal VTAC barricade to use and practice with. so if he shoots it up, it's his own fault.

what muzzle blast can do:

some folks don't stick their barrel all the way thru the ports, despite being told to do so. some have very fat hand guards, and can't
