I lived in a time when multiplication beat out division. It was a glorious time.

I've used an RPN calculator since 1982, so this never became an issue.

Wrong-o.

6/2(2+1)
=6/2(3)
=3(3)
=9

You'll never convince me. A few here will understand.

The answer is definitely 6. The guy in the video was sued for ripping people off, and he is obviously still trying to completely mislead the masses who are just trying to balance their checkbooks. Follow his fuzzy math at your own peril. :yesnod:

The order of operations can be remembered by the acronym PEMDAS, which stands for: parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division from left to right, and addition and subtraction from left to right. First, simplify the parentheses. Then, do exponents.

6/2(2+1)

3 X 6/2
3 x 3=9

9 is the answer buck wheats

I always thought it was BEDMAS

The only difference between BEDMAS and PEMDAS are the letters in the acronym.

Technically neither is correct. Parentheses or brackets are the top tier (do that first). Then do exponents (2nd tier). Multiplication and division are the same (third) tier, so do left to right. Addition and subtraction are the same (4th) tier, so again do left to right.

Anyone who actually paid attention in math class knows that M and D share the same precedence, regardless of their order in the acronym. Same for A and S. So technically you're wrong-o. Don't you ever get tired of being wrong-o?

I'm not wrong; the acronym is, as I 'splained before. I realized that the day it was taught to me, so 'member the order of operations by a different method: The Yakin Way. :yesnod:

1. Parentheses/ brackets top tier 'cuz there's no other reason to write them.
2. Hardest to easiest.
3. Multiplication is the same tier as division since they are inverse functions; same with addition-subtraction.

Wrong-o. The acronyms are both 100% correct.

But as usual you'll never admit that.
