View Full Version : Yum! Brands

Taco Bell and other popular fast-food chains might become digital-only in the near future.

During an earnings call earlier this month, parent company Yum! Brands, Inc. addressed plans to eventually move to 100% digital sales at its restaurants.

This includes fast food chains like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC.

So, what does this mean? In an interview with the CFO Journal, Chief Financial Officer Chris Turner said more customers would be ordering through apps, websites or kiosks in the stores.

Yum! Brands is already testing the use of artificial intelligence to take drive-thru orders, the CFO Journal reported.

According to company leaders, “in the U.S., digital sales have increased almost 35% year over year with kiosks now deployed in 100% of Taco Bell stores.”

It’s unclear when the company plans to reach its goal.

Many other chains have also turned to technology in recent years. Wendy’s began testing an AI chatbot at an Ohio drive-thru earlier this year while many sit-down restaurants have started using robot servers to bring meals to patrons.

If I were a franchise owner, I would opt for this, AND for robotic/automated cooking, as paying employees $15+/hr does not bring $$$$ to the bottom line.

One of the primary goals in running a business is reducing time spent managing employees.

Good.

These jobs were never meant to support a family on. Since fast food came around in the 50s, the model worked because the workers were HS kids making summer money, or retirees putting in some extra time, or second income family members who needed a little cash but wanted flexibility.

Then idiots cried their “right to a living wage.” **** that. These jobs were never designed to support a family. And wages jumped to $15+.

Now you have self checkouts and self ordering. Good. It’ll drive productivity which is good for society.

Regulation creates innovation in this case. Just not the kind they intended.

I would never use an "app" or other pre-order method to get fast food. Never. If that was the only option, that would pretty much eliminate me as a fast food customer forever. As to the ordering kiosks inside the restaurant, or at the drive through, I would probably be OK with that as long as I could pay cash for the food.

Just curious....why? Being able to select options in an app can be much easier than trying to communicate with some of the people working at some of these fast food joints.

I hate those damn things. Checkers has it set up near where my parents live and it's so annoying I refuse to use it. Should you brave a chance at using this set up, you will have to sit through annoying ads and "are you sure you don't want to try..." bullshit before some human has to put the order together and **** it up for you anyway.

Did I mention I hate those damn things?

Oh, and good going to the $15/hr slugs. You dumbasses just pay increased yourselves right out of your jobs.

Went to the local Taco Hell a few weeks ago. Walked up to the counter to order and the two people standing behind the counter, with their thumbs up their asses, told me that I had to use the kiosk to order.

I didn't have Taco Hell that day. Or any day since.

First, it's just MOAR data collection. Your whole life is for sale. At least on the rare occasion that I decide to get Jack in the Box or Popeyes, that should be between me and my fast food provider. Same reason that when I go to a grocery store that requires a "loyalty card" to get sale prices, I hand them a card that hasn't been 'registered,' that is, they recognize the card, but I have given them no personal info, so they can track the habits of a customer, just without a name attached.

Beyond that, it's just more bullshit than it's worth to me. I don't even use the VB phone app.

I was on the road one time and went into a McDonald's for a cup of coffee and a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and went up to the counter. Some lady comes over to me and I tell her what I want. She points behind me to the kiosk and tells me I have to place my order there. I just shrugged and walked out. Went across the street to a Wawa and got what I wanted from a human.

Mowing laws were never meant to support a family on.
Washing cars were never meant to support a family on.
Do better in school and get a better education and leave the fast food for the lazy ass youngsters that won't work, or.

Have the illegals that do most of the fast foods that speak very little english and make 5x more money here than where they came from. They have six or more members of their family making $15 an hour or $90 an hour so they're doing pretty good since i see all the illegals buying new vehicles

These jobs were for high school or college kids or if they wanted to continue in management. But the lazy ass American especially white kids that didn't want to work you know the same kids that have three teenagers at home with a Mexican doing their yard work. If an adult that has a family is working at fast foods then he better be in management or he's getting paid as an unskilled laborer. Who's fault is that?

I rarely set foot in a Walmart, even though there's one a mile away from me, the closest place to get groceries, by the way. They went through and made almost all of the cashier stands self check out. I don't like that. If I have one or two things, maybe, but otherwise, I'll just wait it out for the lone cashier.

Recently, I needed something, it was late night, they were the only ones open, so I went, picked up a few things, then discovered there was no cashier, only self check out. I got one of the ladies proctoring the self check out to ring up my stuff by feigning ignorance on how it all works. Lady did it fast, I thanked her, paid and left.

Her problem is, she's mentally ill, and now her body is mutilated, so what she really needs, a man to take care of her, is most probably off the table, even if she stopped drugging herself. Apparently, a lot of girls do this, some kind of group psychosis, convincing themselves that life would be oh so much easier if they were boys.

My parents did that for the extremely rare car trips we did take. We had a Thermos full of ice water, and a cooler with all kinds of food Mom The cap top of the Thermos was made to pour water in, we all drank from the cooler lid.

That's before the time when people started buying bottled water.

Because they don't want to pay workman comp. Why do young kids need to work 30-40 hours when most of them are living at home. Especially this generation when they're still at home in their late 20's and early 30's. And then we have Doug.
