I'd hate to see what the other guy in the fight looks like now.

Went to an orthopedic for a consult. I've been limping full time since March, but as the stubborn person I am, I thought it would get better, but it didn't. As a racquetball player of 46 years, I always knew I'd need a hip replacement at some point.

Fast forward to 2 week ago, finally got an appointment with the PA. Mind you, I still have an appointment with the doctor on 9/29. When I booked that, it was a 3 month wait, but I got worse and worse, so I went in to see if a cortisone shot would help.

Turns out I have severe arthritis, but "because the pain is at the outside of my hip and not the groin, I don't need a hip replacement". Gap in the left hip socket is perfectly normal, right hip has zero gap...bone on bone.

So, I went the first full week with the cortisone shot, also taking mad amounts of advil, and ZERO help. They also gave me a prescription for Meloxicam (think Celebrex), and started that on Monday...but can't take advil. Monday was a disaster, and each day has gotten worse.

Next step is unknown...if you won't replace my hip, how the hell do I live the rest of my life like this? :sadangel:

Yes, Melox worked great for my wrist/hand arthritis two years ago. I started with 10MG, and as time went on I kept cutting it back, down to 1/2 every other day. I agree, it takes a few days for it to work.

The pain gradually got better over two years, and I haven't taken any Melox at all since early June.

I've never heard of arthritis getting better and basically disappearing, but two docs said that's what I have (had). I think they're full of it. The pain was nearly unbearable.

I'm going to try and "cliff this."

I have a bad back and have been taking Humira pen shot 15years now.
Also had both hips replaced, knee jobs and such.

This past spring, for some reason arthritis in my hands & wrist started up.
So my Rheumatologist has been trying to come up with a plan.

In addition, been taking steroid shots from my Ortho Dr in my shoulders every 4 months the past 2 years for pain.

Blood tests were done to confirm serious arthritis/inflammation.
Blood test was also done confirming Humira was not working anymore.

With that said and done, I just did one month of methotrexate, Prednisone to help calm things done.

Rheumatologist replaced my long time Humira pen shots with Enbrel pen shots. Started 2 weeks ago.

Since then I feel pretty good. here's the kicker. Zero pain in my shoulders.
I have appt with my ortho guy in a couple weeks. I might skip the steroid shots this time to see how this plays out.

Maybe copy this and take it to your Rheumatologist for an opinion

Who am I really? That's an interesting question. For years, I've been trying to "find myself", but have yet to be successful. Just last week, I drove over to the local bowling alley to see if I was there, nope. The week before it was the movie theater, not there either. I've been to golf courses, bars, and quilting bees, no, no, and NO. I'm pretty frustrated at this point, not sure how much longer I'll be looking.

See a different ortho and get the hip replaced.

My wife could barely walk. She went to four different orthos. One want her to try shots (bad idea!), one told her she was too young, and two told her get them replaced.

She had one replaced on Feb and one replaced in May and is teaching full cardio and weight classes again, squatting and lunging and jumping like normal already.

Thank you for listening,,,

I had severe, acute shoulder pain the same time I had wrist/hand pain in April 2021, mentioned in a previous post.

These are all inflammations. I asked my doc if I had "systemic inflammation" but he poo-pooed the idea, no I have arthritis in my wrists/hands and tendonitis in my shoulders.

In the spring of '21 I had one cortisone shot in my right wrist and right shoulder (they were worse than my left side).

I went to PT and learned a bunch of stretching and strengthening exercises for my shoulders, and they are fine now. I started out doing the exercises every other day, but only have to do them once per week to maintain things.

I hope this will keep me away from the scalpel forever, so far so good.

I used to be fun but since our son passed away both the wife and I have been not doing so well. I hate to keep talking about it but it seems all consuming .....we are turning into recluses , our neighbors have asked us to their homes and have been a big help...we have gone out a few times but we find we get anxious and we need to leave if it's a group....I'm sorry to bring this up,I really am trying not to but it is so hard.

I cannot imagine the pain of outliving a child. Prayers for comfort and strength. :sadangel:
