Although I haven't used it in many years, there's a system called "File Transfer Protocol," allowing you to DL large files through your browser.

Try Googling "FTP."

LOL, yes. I didn't really absorb what he said: The limit was 5 MG??? Not 5 GB?

5 MG would be a big file for dial up, but today it's nothing. I routinely DL 50-100 MG files directly through Firefox -- and even much larger than that sometimes and it has never told me they cannot transfer a file that big. Email servers might have smaller limits.

At any rate, here's the skinny on FTP. (https://www.howtogeek.com/272176/how-to-connect-to-ftp-servers-in-windows-without-extra-software/)

Once I started a download thru a 56k modem, I left, watched a movie, and when I returned, it was at 80%.

I remember those days well, starting in 1994. My modem in the early years was much less than 56k . . . 14k or something? I finally did step up to 56.

In 2005 I discovered that there was a DSL line on my dirt road, which I never though would happen; I'm not even sure how long it had been available. I immediately had them hook it up. It was like going from a horse-drawn carriage to a Ferrari. Spectrum came through in 2019 and I've been on that since.

The hard drive on my first PC (an "IBM clone") was 170 MG.

Funny how people always seemed to find a way to gitter done, isn’t it?

Download? Just watching a short video took forever. It used to freeze and press play again and again and again.

Now I have Frontier, and I added a booster.

I'm from the 300 baud acoustic coupler days - so you guys get no sympathy...
Netscape and AOL - ah those were the days. Now, you can have goofy cat videos streaming to your laptop all day long...

Yeah - started with a 14k modem, then 56k, then DSL, and now fiber. It's amazing how much faster fiber is.
