After day 1, she's very much in the hunt for a win. If not for the cone today on the longer side, she'd be only 9/100ths out of 1st place. In pro solo, that doesn't matter. She clearly has the speed. She gets one more shot at it tomorrow morning. 2 left side, and 2 right side runs remaining. Regardless, she has zero chance of losing 2nd place, so another National Trophy is virtually guaranteed.

She's currently 4th in the ladies challenge ladder (only the top 16 qualify). That happens tomorrow afternoon. Bracket system with single elimination, with cash on the line.

Good luck to her!

Well, G didn't win, but she did improve on both the left and right sides on her last runs, and halved the gap with the 1st place winner. Thankfully she did this because an unknown dark horse came from nowhere and "almost" knocked her out of 2nd. So her 2nd place finish is now her 7th trophy on the National circuit, and I've been on it since 2009 and have only trophied once.
The unknown is an extremely fast, extremely well known challenger in an open wheel car with racing rubber. With GWiz's improvements, she held off the 2nd place challenger by 76/1000th of a second.
She placed 3rd of the top 16 women to get into the bracketed challenge ladder, and ultimately had to face the same car again head-to-head in the 3rd place runoff race. Wicked fast open wheel car red lit the tree and was done. GWiz finished 3rd in the ladies challenge and won some cash. Not a bad weekend.

Just to level set, Kim Whitener, and her husband in the same car, both won their classes, and both won the bracket challenges. They are in the chassis industry and sell shocks to the entire series and are highly regarded. For GWiz to be within a quarter second of Kim was a HUGE win. She's still only 24. Time is on her side, and her outright wins are just around the corner.
How do the cars compare? I would think the FRS would have the power advantage, and the Miata the weight advantage.

It's an index class, so you can have Formula 1 cars racing Miatas. You can see their handicap numbers in the first graphic. They are close. Regardless, she's "almost" there. Once she gets that first win, the rest will fall easily. :yesnod:

Get her back in a Miata:seasix:

Get her back in a Miata:seasix:
She's in a 2013 Scion FRS, and it's quite capable. I think she can pull it off in this car. She doesn't really have access to a sorted out Miata capable of winning on the national scene at the moment. Building one of hers would take years.
On a side note, my brother-in-law is selling his deceased parent's Infinity soon (which I fronted about $400 plus my labor to replace the starter and get it running), and I will be inheriting "Baymax", one of GWiz's two NA Miatas. In exchange, I get to keep Baymax in his garage.
I already put about 17k into this car, but will be doing a frame off restoration and restoring this car to concourse level. Car will be flawless, and I don't care how much it costs. She's "giving" me the car, but in the end, she'll get it back anyways after I die. She's keeping "Skittles", the red one she built when she was 15.

What in the world is a "Doof Wagon"?

What in the world is a "Doof Wagon"?
Doof Wagon is a name for a vehicle from the Mad Max Fury Road movie.
The car is actually a tube frame, open wheel racer, weighing about 1200 pounds with about 300 HP, on race rubber. It runs in the F Mod class, hence why it has a MUCH higher index multiplier. 0.923 vs. GWiz's Scion in the STX class at 0.812. Your raw time is multiplied by your handicap to equalize the cars.
The Doof Wagon has won a LOT of events on the tour and is always a threat.

So, something like an Ariel Atom would be an example?

100%...but lighter...and WAY skinnier. If I'm not mistaken, the Ariel Atom is more like 1,350 pounds with the same HP, and has a much higher center of gravity.

I figured they’d make it competitive some how, wasn’t sure how.

Here's the 2023 PAX numbers. AM is the top of the food chain and gets a 1.0 multiplier. This is where a formula 1 car would qualify. All the other classes get a discounted time based on their much lower capabilities. It's a neat system, and generally works really well balancing out the competition.
For the record, my 2021 C8 runs in the SSR class. GWiz has won some tires and trophies in that car as well, but clearly has a higher pax # then what she ran this weekend.
I love the FRS/BRZ cars, if anything happens to my 996, a car I love and will keep forever, I’d get a FRS/BRZ and put a supercharger on it.

There is a LOT to be said for the lowest center of gravity production cars on the planet. Rear wheel drive, light weight, and stick shift. Nimble as ****, just a touch under powered. Put a supercharger, turbo, or an LS swap in one of these things and you have a giant killer. I guess that's why Toyota brought back the Supra. The twins need more power, but that's easy to obtain. Out right handling and balance is a whole different game, and the twins win this hands down to the competition.

I've decided to get my 2002 rebuilt into yet another race car. Will tow back to the east coast as nobody here I trust to do it.
My builder wanted to put a supercharger on it:rofl: I told him I actually may race it and don't want to be the Miata in a tube frame class.
