....filming the illegal aliens camped out all over the sidewalk, blocking passage on the sidewalk. Cop writes guy a ticket, ignores the thousands of illegals squatting all over, blocking the sidewalks.

Maybe he was conditioned.

Maybe that will send a message to the hundreds of thousands around the country who go out for a walk on the fkn street in their neighborhoods with a nice wide sidewalk 4 feet away.

There are sidewalks in my suburb. There are not, at present, hordes of illegal aliens camping out, blocking said sidewalks.

I don’t want to live where there are sidewalks.

An old timer once told me, when they start putting sidewalks everywhere in your town, it’s time that get the heck out.

As I recall, there were sidewalks in Mayberry, RFD, the ideal time and place.

Mayberry was a fictional city depicting a much more genteel time. But still a city nonetheless. I’ll pass.

Andy would have had Aunt Bee fix a hot meal for the homeless guy, then he would have had the homeless guy paint a house or something, and then a ride out of town.

What in the actual ****!! If you truly believe that the guy deserved a ticket, then you must also believe that every single one of the ILLEGALS who are ILLEGALLY blocking the sidewalk should be arrested, removedcfrom the sidewalk and removed from the country. Comprende?

You are truly one ****ed-up individual if you believe that performing a constitutionally protected activity deserves a ticket. By the way, there is NOTHING illegal about stepping onto the side of the street if: 1. Doing so does not create a risk to vehicular traffic and, 2. If the sidewalk is blocked.

The ticket will be dropped and the **** face officer who wrote it should be reprimanded, along with his fat **** supervisor.

By the way, I'm a retired cop.

While Mayberry was fictional, it was based on Mount Airy.

Apples and oranges, hoping you are wise enough to understand, but not betting on it based on your post.

At least the bicycle cop didn't ask the guy filming to take his shoes off like this other bicycle cop did here:

Respectfully, the moment the officer ascertained there was no crime, he should have just left. The officer extended the interaction, even after it was carefully explained to the officer exactly what was going on. The dude holding the sign might be a douchebag, but he has rights just like you and I have rights, and if we're willing to see his rights violated, willing to see him threatened with arrest for no crime, then that doesn't bode well for you and me. Likewise, if that was you having to walk in the street, around literally thousands of illegals blocking the sidewalk, I would hope you wouldn't want to be ticketed for that. The point is, if we can use lawfare against people we don't like, what happens when YOU are the unliked person?

Edit: Look at what was done to people at the Capitol on J6, who never even went inside the Capitol. That's what it looks like when govt. uses its power to harass people it doesn't like.

The fact that the officer failed to arrest the sign holder even after he explicitly solicited money from J.D. in the officer's presence tells me the officer knew up front the douchebag was doing nothing illegal in the first place. The officer was simply trying to roust the douchebag, hoping he wouldn't get called out on it

Failure to identify is a crime when the officer has reasonable cause to suspect a crime has been committed. The sign guy is just another guy making clickbait videos wrapping himself in the flag/constitution/bible/muh troops to waste cops time, when there are much bigger fish to fry in this country.

This kind of interaction between cop and citizen just doesn’t qualify as the hill to die on fighting for civil liberties.

Only in "stop and ID states," of which South Carolina (and Texas, coincidentally) are not. This is why the douchebag on the courthouse steps was NOT required to ID himself. In contrast, the guy in El Paso who got the jaywalking ticket WAS required to ID because there was more than reasonable suspicion a crime might have been afoot, there was probable cause....the El Paso cop SAW the photographer step off the sidewalk into the road. He saw the misdemeanor crime happen in his presence, so he was able to make an arrest. The jaywalking ticket is a de facto criminal arrest, so the guy filming the illegals had to ID himself, since he was being 'arrested' with a ticket, which, in Texas, is a criminal, not civil matter. The officer could have actually slapped the cuffs on the guy and dragged him to jail instead of writing a ticket.

To be perfectly fair, we engineers do indeed know it all. And, contrary to popular belief, the world actually is black and white. There are no shades of grey that lesser mortals believe.

This has been your public service message for the day.

For the record, not once have I claimed to know everything. In fact the opposite. I am always learning something, and refining my theories of human behavior.
