You can still rate any thread, and your rating vote will be recorded. But until two other people rate that same thread, you won't see any stars for it is all. And if/when those stars do appear, remember the number of them you see is just an average of all votes recorded.

It's more or less like a fun, joke thing. As an example, when I first entered the work world, interoffice mail was a thing. You could send stuff to people at your company in the same building, and across the country as well.

My friends and I working at that company used to send each other all kinds of crazy stuff, just because we could. It was the novelty of it that we found fun.

Thread ratings are like that. Just a harmless, fun novelty.
