View Full Version : Florida is a horrible place to live...

Florida is a horrible place to live according to Trump. All those conservative policies that resulted in large numbers of people moving to Florida over the last few years were all bad. All those Republicans in the Florida legislature are horrible people for enacting laws that helped make Florida a more conservative state.
I seriously don't understand how conservatives can support this man any longer. He's using democrat talking points to bash a very successful Republican governor.

You have totally ignored the "Under DeSantis" portion of Trump's rant. You also ignored the "in many areas and for many cohorts" part.
Now, are there any specific data points you dispute or is Trump accurate in his statements?
As a point of reference, Democratic leadership has turned Houston in to a complete shithole...however, it has provided a decent income and other advantages I would not get elsewhere. Trump can both live in Florida and recognize or point out negative changes under DeSantis.
You don't like Trump so if he said it was daylight, you'd find fault with it. That renders your perspective biased and worthless. You lack objectivity so the entire thread is garbage.

I’m a lifelong conservative and I live in Florida. And I said that. I know some will disagree, but I believe Trump would destroy the Republican Party if it got him 4 more years as POTUS.

Yep. Trump is not a conservative. He has no world view, no ideology, no plumb line. He's like water, he just takes the easiest route down.
He never campaigned on reducing spending and liked every spending bill he ever saw.
And he said something like (as I recall) during the "Red Flag" law debate: "Take their guns first, and worry about due process later."
He did absolutely nothing to stop the riots in 2020 -- he could have invoked The Insurrection Act of 1807. Sure the Deep State would have come down on him like a ton of shit, but they did anyway.
I voted for him twice, and he will probably be known as an important historical figure (for better or for worse) but his time is over.

I didn't ignore anything. DeSantis is not a dictator in Florida. All the policies that he signed involved the legislature. Bashing DeSantis is also bashing all those Republicans.
Click on some of the links in his statement and you'll see some of them are left-wing websites.
It is very true that I don't like Trump and that is largely because of stuff like this. Instead of bashing a very popular governor in a very popular state, Trump should be bashing Biden and talk about how Trump will implement policies to help the country. Instead he spends more time bashing DeSantis because he's scared of DeSantis beating him in the primary.

I'm not Trump's strategist, but I assume he'd like to only fight Biden further down the road as opposed to fighting Biden AND other Republicans. Knock the Republicans out and stand alone to fight Biden one on one. Just a guess.

Tell me the untruth(s) here...
Florida is “one of the least affordable states” in the country.
“The National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that a Floridian making $10 an hour must work 86 hours per week just to afford rent on a modest single bedroom home in Florida,” the Trump campaign asserted.
The release then spotlighted rising home prices, contending that three of the 16 most unaffordable metros in the country are in the state (Orlando, Miami and Tampa).
“Florida is now the fourth-most expensive state in the country for health care, and has the highest annual car insurance premiums in the nation,” the Trump campaign said.
Florida ranks in the 10 most expensive states in the continental United States for fuel prices, and in 2023, Florida imposed a new hike on fuel purchases,”
“Under Ron DeSantis, Florida has become one of the worst states” in many areas and for many cohorts, per the Trump campaign.
“In Education, Florida ranks among the worst in the Country and on crime statistics, Florida ranked Third Worst in Murder, Third Worst in Rape, and Third Worst in Aggravated Assault. For 2022, Jacksonville was ranked as one of the Top 25 Major Crime Cities in the Country, with Tampa and Orlando not doing much better,”
“On Education, Florida ranks #39 in Health & Safety in the Country, #50 in Affordability, and #30 in Education & Childcare.

“The National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that a Floridian making $10 an hour must work 86 hours per week just to afford rent on a modest single bedroom home in Florida,” the Trump campaign asserted.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition is a far left organization. I don't trust their numbers. Do you? Also, the minimum wage in Florida is $11 so the $10/hour thing is pointless. Why is Trump quoting a far left organization.
The release then spotlighted rising home prices, contending that three of the 16 most unaffordable metros in the country are in the state (Orlando, Miami and Tampa).
More people moving to Florida = higher home prices. Simple concept. Not having a state income tax offsets some of that compared to other states.
“Florida is now the fourth-most expensive state in the country for health care, and has the highest annual car insurance premiums in the nation,” the Trump campaign said.
He links to an article on a New York NBC TV station. Seems like there would be better sources if it were all true.
Florida ranks in the 10 most expensive states in the continental United States for fuel prices, and in 2023, Florida imposed a new hike on fuel purchases,”
The linked website has Florida as 11th highest for regular unleaded, 13th highest for mid-grade, and 17th highest for premium. Again, no state income tax offsets some of that.

I agree with a lot of what Trump says in concept. I don't get too wrapped up in whether something is 11% or 13% of something. It is minutia. I don't let the insignificance of the delta in the data, throw the entire message off track. The message is there are 50 states and of them Florida has high fuel prices. Why does it matter if they rank 10th or rank 11th?

I did not come to that conclusion. My only takeaway from it all was that Trump wants to be elected and does not want DeSantis to be elected. The rest is noise. Gas prices being 20 cents higher in Florida vs 19 cents higher is inconsequential. It is campaigning 101. Your guy says stuff, my guy says stuff, your guy responds, my guy responds. Blah blah blah. At the end of the day, running a state and running a country are as different as running a house and running a business.
When I see the Trump ad against DeSantis and he says DeSantis voted to raise retirement to 70 years old, THAT matters. If it is 69 or 71 it doesn't make it better or worse. It is the idea that he even wants to do it.

So, you believe info presented in ads or statements and base your vote on that without doing actual research to get the facts. Got it. It all makes sense now. Thanks for explaining your thought process.
Also, regarding raising retirement age, Trump was for that too and expressed that entitlements need to be addressed as late as 2020. But you saw an ad with Trump bashing DeSantis for votes he took while in Congress and apparently accepted that as the entire story.

The exact opposite. I don't believe it. That's why those statements don't move the needle. I did in fact, see that DeSantis three times, voted to increase the retirement age. That is fact. What the age he wants it to be, doesn't matter. One is fact, the other is a detail of the fact. The fact in this case, makes the detail irrelevant. Sometimes it is the opposite, the detail is critical and the statement is not. What Trump was "for" is not close to casting a vote THREE TIMES.

Some of that is objectively true. Trump is NOT a conservative. He did nothing to stop profligate spending, his idea was to increase tax revenue via a roaring American economy. He did say he might be in favor or a red flag law, although he did nothing but make the offhand statement. He DID, however, ban bump stocks with nothing gained in return. The great negotiator ****ed over his own voters and got NOTHING in return. All of that is objectively true.
I mean, my perfect president would still be Ron Paul, but Trump was as good as we're actually going to get, someone who was able to simply overrun the two party system via sheer force of will and an unlimited bankroll. Ron Paul could never do that.

He probably paid accountants over a million to get that done. And I salute him for that. Because, as I have explained to the IRS at least twice, it is not only my God-given Right, but my Sacred Duty, to fork over a little of my hard-earned cash to the Government as legally possible.
You, as a Democrat, will never understand that. Sadly, same with many, possibly most, Republicans.

Lots of inaccuracies there, if anybody thinks our current "world view" leader is better get some help. Trump understood the players and how to push their buttons and always put America first, calling out NATO for lack of other nation's support, keeping 'lil Kim at bay, negotiation a conditional Afghanistan withdrawal. And let's not even talk about spending bills with the current goat rope, misnamed bills that are nothing but "green" agendas and wealth redistribution. Invoking the insurrection act to deal with the "summer of love" would have been a mistake an NO President would have done so. It would have been an admission that local authorities weren't up to handling the situations, whether true or not, and would have been a nightmare.
Having said all that Trump, if elected, will bring on 4 more years of gridlock, non-productive drama and more divisiveness, its inevitable.
And Florida, the big cities, at least is changing - all of the moronic nothern refugees from crime, taxes, homelssness are arriving and wonder why Florida isn't more like "home" and haven't lost an iota of their Marxist outlook.

My first job in HS, besides mowing lawns, was for Baskin Robbins, dipping ice cream....a soda jerk, for our older membership. I was, I'm thinking now, paid LESS than minimum wage, and was happy to have the job for spending money. Later, I got a job with a drug store, making the princely, over minimum wage sum of $ 4/hr, and was again happy to get that. Those weren't jobs that were intended to support a family, and I doubt I could have left home with my $ 4/hr job and supported myself.
If you're working an entry level job and all on your own as an adult, you're going to need to face reality. That doesn't pay for you to have kids, that doesn't even pay for you to live by yourself, meaning, you need one or more roommates to split the cost of housing between. College kids have been doing this forever. You get out of that rut by parlaying your experience into better paying positions, or by taking a job that pays more, but requires more.

The insanity here is, these wouldn't have been considered hard right, conservative, or even non mainstream ideas even 20 years ago. The insanity is that laws like this are even needed in the first place, or that we even have to discuss this.
I mean, we're at a place in time where we have to argue about why sexually mutilating and sterilizing kids is bad, and why forcing unwanted medical treatment on people is also bad, despite everyone kind of agreeing on that with the Nuremberg Laws.

My first job in HS, besides mowing lawns, was for Baskin Robbins, dipping ice cream....a soda jerk, for our older membership. I was, I'm thinking now, paid LESS than minimum wage,
I took my first real job -not cutting lawns, etc- at 15. The place was a locally owned grocery/convienance store. Every neighborhood kid worked for Lou. :yesnod: This was 1977 and minimum wage was around $2.50/hour if I remember correctly.
I worked that job through my 1st year of apprenticeship with the Steamfitters. I get up and go to my Steamfitter job at the refinery. If it was Tuesday or Thursday I'd go to night school. If it was Monday, Wednesday or Friday I'd work the grocery store job in the evening.
At the beginning of the second year of my apprenticeship I finally quit the first job I ever had. :Jeff '79:

You mistake my disdain for Trump to equal a love for the GOP. That is incorrect. Where have I ever posted anything saying the GOP is awesome? I haven't. Most of them are just as corrupt as the democrats and should be voted out of office.
My disdain for Trump is because I think he can't beat Biden or whomever runs for the dems in 2024 and because I don't like being blatantly lied to by someone that wants to be the most powerful person on the planet. I want a Republican in the white house and Trump is not likely to win (I'd prefer a true conservative, but I'd settle for a Republican given our two party system).
So, again, it may be hard for you to understand, but disliking Trump doesn't make me a shill for the GOP.
Trump, like the Clintons and Obamas, needs to STFU and disappear. Their egos will never allow that.
:iagree::iagree::iagree::iagree::iagree:
Trump and Pillow Man are identical. They think that running their suck is what people need/want. Since 2015 Trump has been posting on tweeter, on TV, and the radio everyFngwhere, and I am honestly fed up with him.
A guy talked about this on the radio a few months ago; he used Nixon as an example. Nixon lost the 1960 election, and he vanished. Came out for the 1968 election and won.
Imagine working for Trump, calling you names, insulting you, and calling you at 4:00 AM to check on you. Yes, he did great for our economy, but once he opened his mouth is was blurred.
One thing is for sure, IMO Florida sucks. Yes, I've been there several times, a one-way in and a one-way out. I loved Key West though.

Agreed. The only intent he would have for running 3rd party is to guarantee a Biden win. Him getting on the ballot in enough states to possibly win as a 3rd party candidate would be virtually impossible.
Sadly, I wouldn't put it past him running 3rd party in just one or two states (Texas, Florida) just to screw the Republicans. Even sadder, some Trumpsters would be OK with that.

My disdain for the gop is no different than the dnc; they both have legislated policies for decades effectively destroying the working class long-term health and viability.
Byedumb is in the Whitehouse simply because of voter fraud and the gop's incompetence to do ANYTHING to counter the fraud. No different than thier cowering to the dnc on almost every issue. As far as third parties go, a legitimate third party for the true working class would destroy the opposition; in a fair fight.

They did NOT play "Hail to the Chief" . military uniforms were incorrect and he did NOT leave on AF1. Also his "dog and pony show" took place in Georgia, NOT DC.

This country is doomed, both in the intermediate future, and the long term future. If Trump wins, those 4 years will buy a little breathing room, but the end is the same.....we'll be a non white, non Christian country, the US dollar will no longer be a world reserve currency, the petro dollar, instrumental in giving value to our worthless fiat script, will be over, and our forward facing military, the only other thing that gives the US dollar strength, will not be effective, and won't be able to be maintained. Our empire is setting, just like England's empire disintegrated.
So if Trump doesn't win, we might as well stop even trying to prolong the death spiral and complete our destruction by the one world government, Marxists, etc. Either way, we're screwed, so I'm going out exactly like Michael Moore described in the 2016 election.....defiant.

Good. Trump needs pushback from his own supporters when he's wrong. It took several crowds booing him when he bragged about Warp Speed for him to finally figure out that, while the advent of the experimental injections gave some of the populace the false courage to begin running the country again, it was only a success for its placebo effect, and in actuality, has caused as much or more harm than it might have prevented.
Attacking DeSantis, the conservative governor of the state he lives in....it's non productive or worse. He ran and won as a true outsider, and most Americans can now see that he actually WAS an outsider, as no one can recall seeing bullshit plot after plot, attack after attack, on a president even after he is out of office. Americans love the underdog, love a comeback story.....I think the constant, unrelenting attacks on Trump even now will swing middle of the road voters to Trump, especially when they take stock of their lives, of what's going on in their communities, their country, etc.
Reagan asked, "are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" Most of America won't be able to pretend they were better off under Brandon. I mean, people have to go to the grocery store, pay for utilities and fuel, and buy other necessities to live.....every time they pay a bill, it's a reminder of how things are now....demonstrably worse than they were.

What if Trump is dead on that DeSantis would not be a good choice? While he could be mistaken or have erroneous data, it does not mean he is incorrect about DeSantis' politics or motivations. Remember, there was a time when Crenshaw was seen as being Conservative and patriotic and he has fallen in to the swamp. Black Rifle Coffee was held up as a Right-wing business and that also proved to be incorrect.

And what if Trump is wrong about DeSantis and he becomes an awesome POTUS? We know what Trump will do since he was POTUS for 4 years. Some of that was good (although most of the good wasn't lasting)...some not so much.
Which is a higher risk? Trump with his high negatives with independents going up against Biden (or Newsom or ?) or DeSantis going up against Biden (or Newsom or ?). Most polls show DeSantis doing better against Biden than Trump.

DeSantis may yet make a good president in the future. But for 2024, I want Sampson in office. Trump really thought his pro-America, populist policies, would bring the institutional state to his side. He knows better now. He understands how things work, and he knows up front there is no working with those people, only a fight, one that Trump is particularly suited to win. He definitely has the motivation.
I want revenge Trump; I want vengeance Trump. I want Sampson, pushing down the pillars of the same institutional state that assassinated Kennedy. He may not be able to win that fight, but I believe he's our only shot. I also believe God uses imperfect people to do things that seem impossible.

As I have said in here multiple times, DeSantis will not run UNLESS HE FEELS HE CAN WIN.
As of today, nothing tells me he can win.
If he cannot win, he will wait until 2026 to announce he will run in 2028, this allows him to do so without being GOV of Florida.
If he ran for 2024 and lost to Trump, which ALL polls say he would, he would greatly harm his 2028 odds.
Trump will win Pub Nominiation.
Trump will lose to biden, as many pubs will not vote for Trump, and again they are thanked by the un-American Socialist Party for being selfish and sheeple for the msm, and allowing the socialists to continue to destroy THEIR country.
And lastly, if these types will not vote for Trump, who do they present as the candidate to beat the socialists,,, please list up, as I need some Monday humor.

You words say this will be bad, so why would it be bad to drain the swamp, I am all for it.
To answer your question, DeSantis can then fill in for the next eight years and return THE USA to how it was under the REAGAN years.
Without Trump in 2024, and DeSantis to follow for eight years, the country will be lost, as socialists will make this a one-party nation, with:
1) stuffing the SCOTUS
2) making dc and pr states
3) lowering the voting age to 16
4) eliminating the fillibuster and allowing for simple majority votes in senate
5) increase illegals to 10+M/year

These polls are MUCH different:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/nbc-news-poll-nearly-70-gop-voters-stand-trump-indictment-investigatio-rcna80917
A whopping two-thirds of Republican primary voters say they stand behind former President Donald Trump and dismiss concerns about his electability, despite his recent criminal arrest and other legal investigations into his past conduct, a new national NBC News poll finds.
https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/04/31947169/trump-vs-desantis-new-poll-shows-odds-heavily-in-favor-of-one-but-other-has-better-chance-of-beating
Trump clearly leads the pack in a potential field of 12 Republican candidates, snagging 48% support from Republican primary voters as opposed to 24% for runner-up and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the poll found.
The results were based on a survey of 600 likely Republican primary voters that was conducted between April 11-17.
Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is a distant third with 5% support, followed by 3% for Senator Tim Scott and 2% for entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. All three have announced their candidacy for the presidency. The rest of the contenders received less than 1% of votes each. Approximately 13% of respondents said they were still undecided.
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/trump-desantis-national-polls/
FiveThirtyEight is launching our national polling average for the 2024 Republican presidential primary. It shows former President Donald Trump receiving 49.3 percent of the national vote and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (who has not officially entered the race) receiving 26.2 percent. Former Vice President Mike Pence, another potential candidate, is at 5.8 percent, while declared candidate and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is at 4.3 percent.
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-widens-lead-2024-republican-presidential-primary-2023-04-03/
WASHINGTON, April 3 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump has widened his lead over his rivals in the 2024 Republican presidential nominating contest, even as he faces criminal charges in New York, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Monday.
Some 48% of self-described Republicans say they want Trump to be their party's presidential nominee, up from 44% in a March 14-20 poll.
Some 19% back his closest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, down from 30% last month. Other likely rivals polled in the single digits.
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3962483-trump-surges-to-13-point-lead-over-desantis-poll/
Former President Trump has flipped the field against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a possible 2024 GOP primary matchup, surging to a 13-point lead, according to a new Wall Street Journal poll.
Trump trailed DeSantis by 14 points as recently as December, but Trump’s solid lead now points to signs that DeSantis’s not-yet-announced campaign may be losing momentum.

That's how they got Kennedy when he threatened to break up the CIA into a thousand pieces and cast it to the wind.
All this discussion about Trump. A guy who has no chance to get re-elected. None. Zero.

I listened to Levin's podcast about an hour ago, and he came on. I walked away from my Bluetooth speaker.
IMO, with all honesty, I can give-
What's the GOP plan or agenda? Do they have one?
As I get older, I get wiser; I'm not voting unless a new and younger man or woman wins the primary.
Sadly, millions will vote for Biden, a senile vegetable that needs to get drugs to speak for three minutes. His teleprompter ought to be the size of a movie theater.
Biden will be re-elected. If DeSantis is smart he’ll stay the fuk away from it all.
The Republic is done.

GOP plan ? Status quo no matter who is POTUS, we now have a "uniparty"... zany MTG notwithstanding, there are few firebrands trying to really change things, Jordan and some others make a lot of noise but nothing more.

That's because the takers are permitted to vote. So they'll vote for more free stuff. Santa Claus will always win as long as he has toys to hand out to the kiddies. :seasix:

The gop is loaded with dumbarses, they will spend $1B, or more, in 2024 on tv and radio spots.
This crap does not work, less than 1% of voters are influenced by a tv ad, most change channels.
This money needs to be spent today mailing brochures to every registered pub voter in the country, and repeated every three months, and then again in AUG SEP OCT 2024. This marketing can also be sent to independent voters.
From the voter rolls you can get name and addresses.
You can drop in bulk, which is much cheaper than first-class mail.
When you view the 2020 results, Trump could have easily won if the pub-registered turnout was higher:
1) Arizona lost by 10K votes, 3.35M cast
2) Georgia lost by 11K votes, 4.93M cast
3) Penn lost by 83K votes, 6.83M cast
4) Wisconsin lost by 20K votes, 3.24M cast
5) Nevada lost by 34K votes, 1.37M cast
Pubs bitched about the mail-ins, they knew this would happened, but failed to put together the resources to match the effort, as they probably ran out of cash paying for stupid TV ads.
Pubs also were concerned with ballot harvesting and polling place fraud, but did very little to monitor.
This is simple, you need to ensure your registered voters vote, you can monitor this up through election day, while contacting those who have yet to vote.
Spending a $1B+ in ads during the primaries and general election is old school, the old school strategy failed in 2020, it will again fail in 2024.
Tell the rnc to call me, I have lots more to offer, but I am not cheap.

TV and Digital is old schools, but snail mail is what, cutting edge?
Shit, I don’t think I go to mailbox more than once every 3 weeks and then throw 90% of it straight in the trash.

Takers are government subsidy folk? Like SS and Medicare recipients?

They love to be interviewed on radio stations for years, and nothing gets changed. Like libs bitching about guns, taxes, and employment.
I say the GOP but a few are undercover Democrats.

I failed to add emails as a contact source.
GOP needs to change it up, copy the things that worked for the socialists, repeating the same template is stupid and a guaranteed loss.
Again, do not wait until AUG 2024, it needs to start now.

We paid for these and will milk the system dry. :D
