If I had to or wanted to buy an EV.....we only have 150 amp service.....would that be able to charge an EV ?
(I don't want one ....asking for a friend :willy:)
240v 50 amps is considered fast charging. So no problem, as long as you have room for a double pole breaker.

I only have one breaker slot available and that will be taken up soon so I guess I will have to have an electrician put in a larger box......ugh
Talk to your electrician. Many times you can get one or more "double single pole" breakers to free up space for a regular double.

If you're putting in a new box, you may be able to do a service upgrade at the same time.

That's plenty. You can even charge an EV on a standard 15A circuit if you need to.

The question is not can you charge on house current but how quickly - another of the hidden costs of an EV seldom talked about...

The average driver - of ICE vehicles as well as EVs - only drives about 41 miles per day. Even a Level 1 charger can restore that amount of mileage overnight.
IOW, it's a big nothingburger which is why nobody talks about it.

Until there is an evacuation order for a hurricane or other disaster. Can you imagine the crash caused by 2 million EV owners trying to charge before leaving town, or the road rage as the cars run the battery down cooling the occupants while sitting in traffic gridlock for 8 or 10 hours? How the hell do you recharge when the power is out for 200 miles in any direction?

Strap 12 batteries on the roof... :slap:
It not a problem on my end because I have no intention to own an electric truck.

I guess you'll have to imagine it since it will never happen in reality. :funniest:

Exactly. Electric car owners simply need to buy trailer mounted gas or diesel generators to tow behind their electric vehicles, and they can travel just as far as a real car would take them!

Theres double stacked switches that can free up room, i doubt youd need a new box. I thought the same till i asked an electrician who was doing other work for me.
