Never heard of this happening before. My fridge is close to 25 years old.
Here's another one... The damage is nuts!

My parents had Harvest Gold appliances, right down to the washer and dryer, at Mom's request. I mean, that shit was ugly back then, but I guess sooner or later, it will be back in style, along with olive drab green and orange shag carpeting.
I know A-Dog is excited for his orange shag carpet in the van to be in style again. :leaving:
Mine was made in Australia.

Really would like to know why? WTF is in a fridge that causes the kinetic reaction? Any chemical experts in the house?

All I can think of is the the pressurized refrigerant tank fails, explodes, and the shrapnel from that did all the damage.

Doubt it's chemistry related. The gas being pressurized is non-flammable as far as I'm aware. Perhaps electronic? I could imagine a faulty limit switch allowing pressure to build beyond what the system is designed to handle being the cause of something like this. Needs a blow-off valve

So it's most likely the compressor (specifically the compressor housing cannister) that's exploding?

No idea, was just guessing. This guy says it could explode because of a butane leak -

I was in the manufacturing industry for years and worked with an engineer that came from Whirlpool (I think). The fridge makers were presented with a new off-shore compressor. Hey, it looks the same, sounds the same and feels the same. And it was $xxx dollars cheaper. "Look how much money we will make! We take them." At the end of the year profits were down. Why? Warranty claims skyrocketed. The solution was to shorten the warranty. That being said I was at Lowes the other day and passed thru the appliance section and noticed that Samsung is now offering 10 year compressor warrantys. Hmm.

Yup, saw a video about how this became a big problem over in China. They've a law now against allowing them inside buildings, busses, and trains.

WTF is they talking about BUTANE??? that's a gas that burns, to do fridge cooling, we use FREON.....R12 or R134 watt mfgr is so suooopid as to put flamable explosive BUTANE into the compressor gas????

We're going to get a new one sometime this year. I'll keep this in mind.

That's what I thought.
Mine was made in Australia.
My range and ovens were made in New Zealand. 22 years old and like new still.
My Kenmore fridge from 2012....not so much. Barely hanging in there. But the ice maker healed itself after being non-op for 18 months. Which is good, since I seem to be using more ice since I retired. :shots:

Mines only ,17 years old, but built like a tank. Heavy gauge, quality stainless. The water filter connectors are broken, due to my idiocy, but I can hit rod that simple enough. I have had to hit rod the ice maker as well.
