View Full Version : Want A Challenge? Win A Prize!
Military folks may be interested, but open to all.
I need these ribbon decals put in chronological order of date of issuance. There are no personal awards ribbons displayed, just wars, regions of conflicts, stationed overseas, etc.
Winner or closest to arrange by date of issuance will receive a very unique military artifact.
Ends 3/31/23.
Thank you.

National service ribbon is probably first since you get that for graduating boot camp.
I had 3 rows of ribbons. Nobody ever told me they needed to be in a specific order. I didn't bother to sort them. My Arctic Service ribbon was the favorite. Not too many people have one of these -

I can put them in precedence if you'd like to build a rack:D

Want to give it a shot, go ahead. This is for a display I'm working on. Of course you know, precedence and date of first issuance are not the same.

There's a handful of WWII ribbons that precedes the National Defense ribbon. I could have went back to the Civil War (Blue & Grey) ribbon, that would be way too many. For this display, I go back to the first ribbon issued at the beginning of WWII.
You're are correct, very few have the Arctic or Antarctic Service Medal.

If you want, list them or show in photo and I'll put in precedence for you.

Nice. If I joined 6 months earlier I might have had one of those too.

Fifty years ago I could have told you what they were, but no idea any more, thanks for the offer though.

Its one thats also regularly awarded to civilians too.
30 days below the Antarctic circle qualifies you. Also awarded to dignitaries who visit.

Military awards and decorations are not arranged in chronological order. They are arranged by order of precedence. No one can determine when an award or decoration was received based on chronological order.

Yes, well aware of that, thank you. The services have their own regs regarding precedence.
What I'm getting at is the first date of issuance of that meda/ribbon, another words, what entity (Congress, each service) first made that available to adorn on the uniform.
Because this is a display I'm working on with no particular service directed to, my purpose is chronological.
I can look all that up, but this is a contest with a prize.
first medal authorized was the purple heart
first medal authorized was the purple heart
That's a personal award, I have none of those displayed in the image, they are medals/ribbons for being in certain wars, conflicts, or being stationed overseas.
Examples of personal awards are bravery, wounded, commendations, etc.
Awards squared in red are personal awards, not issued en masse.

You stayed an entire year and did the dark winter shift? That's awesome.
well then, the war of the roses medal would be first. :slap: :D

Of course. This looks like a unit display given the time span. Are there any units that received all of these?

You actually bring up something interesting that I found while doing my look. For several of these awards, the first date of issuance precedes authorization, notably on the Pearl Harbor related awards.

Yup. 93-94.

Nice try but quite a bit off mark. :seasix:
Had me confused, could not find one ribbon on my image you had on yours, got it squared away now.
The circled ribbon should be the one on the right.
Just a FYI, winner will receive this, inert 30mm gatling gun round.

Did you use a specific service?

I interpreted abbreviation incorrectly from my own list:rofl:
That ribbon did mess up the whole center section.
Did you use a specific service?
No. What I'm seeking is the date the award was eligible for distribution to any of the service members that are entitled. A chronological order of when the medal/ribbon was first introduced, not to be confused with precedence.
I already have that info, trying to establish if anyone else has, kind of a hunt, seek, and research for the answers.
I will display that at the end of the contest.

None are service specific, members of all services would be eligible if served in those particular arenas.
Sorry, no winner, kudos to ZipZap for trying.
Ribbons displayed in order of issuance.
Those displayed are not all inclusive, just the one's I need for my display.
