At least he can be comfortable knowing now that he wasn't the worst president in American history.

Without a doubt Carter was a total asshole as president. He meant well but just did not do things right. His biggest accomplishment as POTUS was looosing his reelection try and we got RR in to straighten out the big messes Carter made for this country.

With that said I hope his time at home is as pleasant as it can be for him and his family!

Horrific president. He was a submarine captain, so he must have been a smart guy, unlike lunch bucket Joe. I actually believe Carter meant well, but his leftist idealism brought us horrible policies, in a classic "road to Hell, paved with good intentions" scenario.

Good ex-president. Terrible president.

Ask Steve_R. As a submariner I’ll be he served “under” Pres. Jimmy Carter:leaving:

Heard they were nuclear buddies.

Wrong he was a LT (03) in the Navy and never rose to the rank needed to command a sub. Normally to attain captaincy you need to be a 04 or prefebly 05.

The 3rd worst president of this country.

:slap:

He was a Navy Nuke, and he was the worst thing to happen to nuclear power in this country. I can’t think of one good thing he did while in office.

Whoa, you're right. I learned something. He apparently was the XO, executive officer on a sub, so, second in command.

10 NOV 1951 - 16 OCT 1952—Duty aboard USS K-1(SSK-1) Billets Held: Executive Officer, Engineering Officer, Operations Officer, Gunnery Officer, Electronics Repair Officer Qualifications: Qualified for Command of Submarine Remarks: Submarine was new construction, first vessel of its class

Still, I'm looking at that, and the rest of his rise in the Navy, and thinking, this is a sharp guy. The military back then was more merit based than it is now.

His position on abortion was very conservative.

His position on abortion was very conservative.

45 years ago, anti-abortion wasn't a conservative position......it was a normal American position. We've gone from that, to over half the country viewing abortion as a sacrament, a sacred, holy right. I get that God promised no more great floods, but really, He ought to change his mind......it's time for another one.

Carter’s position has been recently confirmed.

Terrible POTUS, but a good man in civilian life.

His son lived several blocks over from us when JC was POTUS.

We knew a visit was coming soon when the SS arrived in town and their house. Small town back then. I met him once when they flew into our local small airport. He went up/down the line shaking hands and chatting with everyone.

No matter what you think of him, he did attain some pretty high positions in life. Nuke Submarine Officer he did not. Failed the interview with ADM Rickover.
His daughter was superseded by Chelcie Clinton as the ugliest.
And Obama was the first to out do him as worst, then Joe came along and destroyed all doubt as to who was the worst.

I think one of his biggest failures was not following through on going to the metric system. It started with replacing speed signs with metric equivalent as I remember back in the late 70's.

Coming from the field of Metrology that was my job, the entire world is using metric except for the US and Myanmar. It was stopped due to all the whining from voters. It was just not rolled out in an efficient method.

Yes, switching would cost money but it's a long term investment that would pay dividends in the end.

We toolmakers hated the attempts to convert to metric. During the '70s Xerox started making all their prints in metric, and we had to convert them to inches to make them understandable. For us, there was no upside to the metric system.

I've always thought of Carter as a man who made decisions with his heart instead of his brain. Nice guy, and very smart (he has a degree in nuclear engineering), but high on the list as one of the worst presidents.

I know he has done a wealth of humanitarian work, which is sign of his true character.
He went to GIT to study math and physics to qualify for the nuclear program in the Navy. Strange thing is, on his official Navy site, he doesnt hold a degree from there, unless it is just not shown. Most Nuke Officer hold Bachelors degrees just to be an Officer. Not all, as you can go LDO/OCS routes too.
ANyways, one article states he went onto graduate work for nuclear field..
Regardless, Nuclear Physics etc are not easy degrees to obtain...

Hospice = Go home and die

He wasn't a very good ex-President either, always ran around sticking his nose in foreign affairs thinking that he had great negotiating skills.

He was president when I served in the military. Don't have an opinion on the guy. There was no access to television or newspapers during those 4 years. I do remember seeing a news magazine once though. Only reason I can recall that is because of an article it had about the Michigan food supply being poisoned with PBB where they had to kill all the cows. I remember thinking how lucky I was to have not been exposed.
