A group of hogs is called a sounder. Went to a CEU class featuring a presentation on wild hogs. Turns out, in Texas, you can actually trap them and sell them (live). It's also legal to transport live wild hogs across county lines. Didn't know that, either.

Here's the info on selling live feral hogs:

https://www.tahc.texas.gov/animal_health/swine/

Approved Feral Swine Holding Facilities

An Approved Holding Facility serves as a temporary place to hold feral swine pending their movement to a recognized slaughter facility, an authorized hunting preserve, or another approved holding facility.
Feral Swine Facilities Map Find a feral swine facility near you.

View the list of approved feral swine holding facilities that have agreed to publish their contact information.
Purchase of Feral Swine

TAHC is not involved in any aspect of the purchase transaction.
Approved feral swine holding facilities may purchase trapped feral swine.
Purchase price is at the discretion of the individual facility owner.

This is a list of state approved, private processors, so you've got to locate the one(s) closest to you, and negotiate a price. The speaker said some of these places will even come to your place to load the hogs you've trapped. Don't know about any of this first hand, like I said, it was just mentioned in the class I took.

Trapping tips:

If you're going to trap pigs, it's best to know how many are in the group you want to capture. Use game cams for surveillance. Figure out what your goal is. When you build the trap, figure out where they are congregating, then put a little feed out, and start building your trap a little at a time, like maybe one day put up the t-posts, the next, maybe add a panel or two of fence. Let the hogs get comfortable with going to that area to feed. When you finish the trap, keep it open, let them get comfortable with ALL going in at the same time. Once you know you have all of them inside, hit the gate and lock them in. This way you don't create 'super hogs' that know what a trap is and won't fall for one going forward.

Full disclosure: I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but did take notes during the lecture.

Yeh, I'll try out the cliff version.

Wifes parents were very wealthy. Dad passed 4 years ago, mom just passed last summer

It was well known nothing was left to the other brother (70) because he is also a multi millionaire.

The entire enchilada was left to younger sister (63) and my wife (68)

Mom made the mistake of making older brother executor.

Most of the estate was iron clad and my wife and younger sister received a very respectable 7 figure amount.

There was $400k liquid and the brother took it making claims he did this and that for the folks etc and this was reimbursement.

Compared to what they both received? Eh, but just the point of it.

This all happened a few weeks ago and we're coming up with a plan.

Now........younger sister is not overly upset but my wife is and told them all to go fk themselves.

No more Thanksgiving in West Palm

Not only that, but an Executor is to carry out the instructions spelled out in the will. They "shouldn't" be making determinations on how the assets are distributed, only that it is done as the will dictates.

Your wife was lucky. My Mother's Father was very wealthy, worth several million dollars at least. When he died, the money was supposed to be split evenly among the surviving children "with stirpes". He had 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys, all the girls had passed on, my Mother was the only one of the girls to have children, so me, my Brother and my Sister were supposed to split our Mother's share. I don't care to go into details, but let's just say one of my Uncle's got one quarter of his Father's estate, and the other two got 3/8 each, meaning we got exactly zero dollars.

We looked into fighting it, but the few discussions we had with lawyers led me to believe that it would be a ton of work, and drag out for years. None of us wanted to be the leader of the band, so we just said "**** it, I hope you choke on it", and I haven't spoken to any of the three since.

Apparently my wife's late step-dad planned right. His will stipulates a licensed company does the executorship and distribution. That company gets the state-mandated percentage, and the rest gets split evenly among the surviving siblings- all after my MIL passes.

Smart.

My parents made me executor of their will and I'm trying to get them to downsize and sell everything they don't need. I want very few dealings with my little brother in this department and the biggest headache will be their house. Long story short, I've put a lot of time and money into their house over the last 20 years so the $$$ breakdown if I decide to sell it gives me my contributions for time and $$$ first then split the profit from the sale. I also get to take over payments on the house should I choose to keep it and live in it, but the $$$ split comes into play again if I sell it later. I also have the first option to buy out my brother's share whether he wants to sell or not.

It's gonna be a big headache :(

Not entirely accurate. It is up to the executor as to when any distributed funds are to be sent to all heirs. This period of time is 100% up to the executor. After all of the required, procedures, filings, and advertising are complete, usually about one year after the DOB. They control the release schedules.

Well again not entirely…. The percentage the executor is allowed to take can vary…. In PA a judge will (if it ends up before one) allow 4-5%. The one percent can be substantial, if a larger amount to be distributed.

I guess one could try to strategize an untimely early passing of a sibling…..Now that’s low handed, imo….

With a two second google search, here's California....... this is similar to the Laws in PA.....Please consult the correct person in your State......

"According to the California Probate Code section 10800, the executor receives a percentage of the estate. For example, the executor is entitled to 4% of the first $100,000 of the estate, then 3% of the next $100,000, and 2% of the next $800,000."
