View Full Version : Bandit
Had to take Bandit to the emergency vet hospital tonight.
When I woke up this morning, he jumped up on the bed and started vomiting. Took the pups out for their morning walk, and while he did his business, he also barfed. Gave him his treat for going potty outside, and he barfed. Gave him his breakfast a couple of hours later, and he barfed. After a few hours, the wife made him a bland diet of chicken and rice, and, he barfed.
Called the hospital, got an 8:00 appointment, and took him there. The doc took an x-ray and found some metallic objects inside. So, Bandit is there overnight.
Hope he's going to be able to pass whatever those objects are, and that he won't require surgery. :willy:

Good luck man
Wow, hope he passes it ok.
Beautiful dog.
Tin foil or somethink similar? (like in, got at the garbage/dinner scraps?).

From the x-rays, it looked like it might be a staple or a twist tie. Something like that.
Thanks, T-Mike. He is a good looking pup. Only a year old.

One night he was choking, and he had a ribbon from presents hanging out is throat. Slowly pulled it out..
Bandit will be fine, at least he is being cared for at a Vet now.
Prayers for Bandit.
We are always misplacing those little wire twist ties in the kitchen and know if they hit the floor they are dog treats. :Jeff '79:
They usually poop this stuff out. My chocolate lab ate a dishrag as a puppy. And we figured surgery was going to be necessary, but she pooped out the entire thing. :willy:

I called the hospital at 3 am. The girl said. "he went pee, we take him out every few hours and he doesn't like being in the cage." However, she also mentioned he was staring at her with those beautiful blue eyes. They are taking good care of him. But I'm a nervous wreck and so is his sister Harley-Belle.

Sorry to hear man. My pup got sick recently and we still don’t know what caused it but after a round of some probiotics she bounced back pretty quick. It is nice to have a good vet close by.
Pupdate?
The vet just called. Another set of x-rays was done. Foreign material still exists, and doesn't seem to have moved. However, Bandit is in good spirits, and they have given him some food. So far, he's kept it down, which is good news.
Unless I hear anything more, we'll go pick him up at 3:00pm today. Hopefully, he will have passed a Biden before then.
Thanks all for the well wishes.

Similar, but not lucky enough for her to poop out or puke out the 1" wide ribbon.
Small kitty ~ 6lbs. 2 y/o at the time. Blocked intestines. Couldn't eat or drink, just immediately
puked everything up.
SO took her to the local Veterinarian, who opened up her intestines.
Took out a 1 ft long string of the ribbon, all compressed into a 6" long strip.
The Vet gave us the undigested ribbon in a sandwich baggy $$$.
Wife never left her wrapping supplies out in the open after that.
She's still with me. 14 y/o now.

I was watching one of mine take a dump a few years back and she was struggling to pass something. When she finally did I went out and looked at her poop. You know those really small stretchy gloves some women have? She ate one my wife had left in her pocket with some dog treats.

On a lighter note, one of our dogs goes out in the backyard and eats dog shit. I'm not kidding. We tried all sorts of things to break her of it, but no luck. This morning I let them in from their morning potty break and after about 15 minutes, she pukes up a dog turd on the carpet with a pool of diarrhea looking stuff. Not pleasant while I was trying drink coffee and read the paper before work

I had a dog that was a shit eater. I would see it coming on our walks and tell him no. You could see it in his eyes that he was going to grab it and go. It was a game to him. So I went turd hunting without him. I live in the country so there is a nice selection. I dumped them in his bowl the look he gave me was priceless. After that I would ignore him while walking and he never ate another turd.:seasix:
Good deal. Dogs just eat stuff. We were out to dinner years ago and came home to find one of those am/fm radios that you strapped to your arm when working out, along with those skinny headphones destroyed on the carpet by the basset hound. Wasn't for a few days until she shit a near-perfect AA battery in the backyard.
Just last night, one of the dogs was hanging out with me in the workroom while I was building a new RC buggy. I knew immediately he had picked something up because he went over and sat by the door, followed by some mouth noises. I checked inventory pretty quick and found I was short one shock bladder. It's a 16mm dia. piece of soft rubber. As I went over to him to get him to let loose, the little prick just swallowed it. I'm sure it's not going to cause any issues, but it's just the idea of him scarfing up anything on the floor. At least they don't chew shoes...
Good luck. I'm sure Bandit will be fine. Get him some fiber:D

How is the Bandit?
Thank you for asking, Lisa. He's not doing as good as we'd hoped. He hasn't eaten anything since we brought him home. He hasn't pooped either. He's been peeing like a racehorse, because of all the fluids they gave him.
We have another appointment for this afternoon. The next steps are barium, then surgery if the barium doesn't work.

Thanks everyone!
We got...Ok, I got antsy and asked Alan to call the vet for an update. Bandit is now in surgery and we will get a call when the doctor is finished operating.
Again, thanks for all the prayers and well wishes for our little boy.
The surgeon just called. Bandit is out of surgery and is doing well. In his intestine, they found a couple of twist ties, and some fabric. These puppies like to eat their toys, the furniture, anything they can get their mouths on. In Bandit's stomach, they found a sock, which was likely the source of the blockage. Bandit has barfed up socks before, so I am surprised that he had an issue with this one.
The hospital will be keeping him for a couple of days, he'll get an extra day of rest there. While I miss the little guy, don't want to bring him home too soon, as Harley-Belle will be all over him. He'll probably need to wear a cone-of-shame for a few days too.
In other, non-related news, my C8 budget just took an $8500 hit. :banghead:

I'm surprised to hear it was a cloth item that didn't pass....Stomach acids are so strong, I'd think the material would fall apart and break up into pieces....One of our Dobies Suni, used to jump up and grab the handi wipes from the kitchen sink....all over the backyard we'd find blue, red, yellow turds....Funny but scary too, luckily they passed thru and she had a very clean digestive tract!

How do we isolate him from his sister and his uncle and aunt?? That is without any of them trashing the house. I'm sure Alan will post up pics of Bandit when he gets home :D
This is what was inside Bandit. :ack:
Just got him home. The other dogs are going nuts, as they're happy to see him.
Very thankful your son has returned, both of you deserved a great ending!!
Spoil him a little, and be sure to treat yourself.
Our dogs bring all of us immeasurable joy and comfort, we are very blessed to have them in our lives.
GREAT ENDING!!
:hurray:
Glad he's home all safe and sound. Now, hide all those twist ties and loose socks! :yesnod:

Similar to this one. We made it a rectangle shape so it would fit.
Ringo would shred that in about an hour,

Damn. Glad he's home. Hope other pups will give him a chance to heal.
If you think that's bad, look up Critter Fixers Season 2, Ep. 4. It's free on demand right now on my provider. Spoiler alert. This is the contents of Riley, a Golden Doodle that went through an endoscopy...

At 75 lbs, he is very well fed. He is actually heavier than Loki, who maintains 70 lbs.

How’s Bandit?
He came home and resting comfortably. He's regaining his appetite and taking 3 different meds. Harley-Belle has been in the crate so he's in general population for the time being. The older dogs aren't bothering with him too much, Belle is the one we have to keep him from. :D
