Yet another stellar accomplishment by the nation's best governor.
DeSantis delivers again, $22B Budget Surplus--liberals hate this guy, as he will never be tax and spend.

Very sad for you lessers who are forced to live in a much lesser state.

But hey, you can still visit here for one or two days each year to get the feeling what it is like to be in paradise.

Florida finishing 2022 with record $22 billion surplus

Bethany Blankley | The Center Square | 12/21/2022

The state of Florida is reporting a $21.8 billion surplus in 2022, the highest in state history. The state also decreased its debt by $1.3 billion this year, according to a newly published State Debt Report from the State of Florida Division of Bond Finance.

According to the report, Florida decreased its debt by $1.3 billion, increased its revenues by 17% ($8.5 billion), and maintained its AAA bond rating primarily because of its strong growing economy.

CA had a huge surplus but Newsom pissed it away and we're looking at an 85 billion deficit by July due to continued freebies to illegals and wage-earners and wealthy businesses bailing for Texas at 100 mph. Gas prices are down a bit locally because nobody's driving. They can't afford gas AND food, so it's food...$5 for a dozen eggs that were $2.49 6 months ago. More of that '8% inflation'.

Florida's fiscal responsibility is a HUGE reason the Sanibel Island bridge, and the Pine Island bridge were repaired so quickly. DeSantis basically wrote a blank check to make it happen.

And doing so without a state income tax.

Progressive idiots like Newsom could only hope to come close to that kind of success.

Just a guess, but probably because like ALL states, FL issues bonds for large capital construction projects.

Nah, that can't be it.

Good post, FL has more debt that I would like to see, but are trending in the right direction.

Click on this https://www.usdebtclock.org/ , and then click on State Debt Clocks in upper left, NC is doing well, and of course the very worst you will see are the blue states.
blue states do not care about debt, as each time the pathetic congress passes a new bills, the blue states get a huge higher disproportion of monies, as idiots take care of idiots.

You are correct, FL has the best infratructure, roads, medical facilities, schools, etc... of any state by far.
Go to the NE, EVERYTHING is broken, 100 years old or out of service.
In FL, all things are shiny and new and efficient.

I feel blessed about it.

Here in the panhandle, not only do we have the political, economic, and freedom aspects of Florida, we also enjoy a cultural environment that’s very southern. As in southern Alabama and southern Georgia.

The personality of the area, or the “vibe” suits me very well. It’s a redneck, cowboy, biscuits & gravy, kinda place. Robert E Lee still stands at the courthouse. People wear camo to church.

The deep dirty south. Y’all.

It isn't going to go from SF to LA. Rich libs in SF and LA are NIMBY.

It's no longer privately funded for 20 billion to be completed by 2020.

It is now publicly funded through tax dollars for 180 billion, to be completed by 2035, and will run from Wasco (17 miles north of Bakersfield) to Madera (20 miles north of Fresno).

19th century tech for the 21st century. Brillian. And who wouldn't want to go from Wasco to Madera for $12o per ticket and rent a car?

Why drive your own car in about 90 minutes for $30 in gas and have transportation on-site?

Go 'High Speed' Rail!

Trump, as good as he is, is too polarizing. If he runs, he hasn't a chance unless

the GOP cheats as much as the Dems did in '20. Not a chance.

All the Dems I talk to, including my extended family, are still blaming Trump for everything. Christmas card I got this week. All Trump's fault.

Democrats are like Raiders fans. No matter how rabid, no matter how wrong, no matter how foul, they will always vote Dem.

De Santis is our only hope for a Rep. in the office in '24. Too many people hate Trump because he is so easy to hate.

Not sure DeSantis runs. It would be a slap in the face to all those in FL who just elected him to a 4 year term.

I believe he'd be wise to sit out the chitshow that it will be when Trump and the Media get into the cage.

Absolutely :yesnod:
I went over the Sanibel bridge first week of November and I was amazed at how quickly they got it completed.
I shot a vid going over the bridge as well as down the main drag and been meaning to upload it to show the devastation.

The week after Ian I was at Lowes getting supplies and everything was fully in stock.
Bunk after bunk of plywood was available, the parking lot had mazes out of roofing shingle pallets, AC units, the whole chalupa.

I've never seen anything quite like it after a major hurricane. I've only been through a few small ones but my Dad and siblings have endured many over the decades.

About $2700. That's been increasing very slowly over the 17 years that I have owned the place. The county is pretty good at adjusting their rates to maintain a slow rate of inflation relative to the wild swings of the assessed values.

They currently have me undervalued at about 2/3 or a recent valuation (for a refinance). And that valuation was very conservative based on recent sales or neighboring properties.
