Two pictures. First is a 1961.

The bed had two levels the rear was raised maybe 8" to allow for the engine underneath. The ramp area was lower.

Can't be many of those surviving.

There's a red and white one just like this one in town, and in the same shape (mint) Only one I've seen in 40+ years.

In the top photo, the lowered slammed and roached out one looks like shit, IMO. Slammed cars suck. And generally, so do the people who drive them. :seasix:

I wonder what the payload capacity is on that rig? Couldn’t be much, especially with the motor in the rear. Maybe the reason for its demise?

This site (https://www.hotcars.com/the-1962-chevrolet-corvair-95-rampside-pickup-truck/) claims 3/4 ton, but that seems just a bit optimistic. :funny:

A guy in Lexington NC has one. He's there a lot whenever there is a cruise-in, several times/ year.

The VW Type 2 was similar....a VW Bus with a pickup bed, engine in the rear, air cooled.

Always wondered why the 5 ton dually box van trucks we serviced in late '70's for Granny Goose Potato Chips were needed....even full of bags of chips, the cargo couldn't of weighed more than 100 pounds!!
