View Full Version : Vette Barn 4Th of July Hoedown

Just thinking, folks. Doug's birthday is on the 4th of July, and StoryTellerStealth's is on the 1st...Why not have a Vette Barn Fourth of July party where we all get together in a safe and central location and have a two or three day shindig?

Doug and STS could be the guests of honor, and as such, each could have their own dunking booth. Money would pay for the food and drink. We could have dodge-ball games, volley ball, shifter-cart racing, a poker tournament, and for Doug, pickle-ball. Log splitting contests, Pie contests, a Chili cook-off, you name it.
Fun and games and BBQ for all, and a chance to socialize and relax.

Hell, even have a golf driving range contest to see who can hit the guy picking up the balls the most often. (he would be given a hard hat). :waiting:

GTO, can you add cornhole to the list of things to do? We will need a place with a swimming pool in July. Count me in, and I will supply the craft beer.

If we are doing cornhole, I will call howard stern to officiate A.R.T.

As someone who has planned one Cruise-In and hosted two Barn Raisings (one official, one not), I think it's a safe bet that when it comes to these forum gatherings, it's just too much work and not enough reward.

I mean, you're welcome to give it a shot, but I think that ship has sailed.

I agree. While my vision sees a mud-wrestling pit, boxing ring, and paint-ball combat course, along with BBQ pit, golf course driving range, car show area, and RV area, ALL in Tikiman's front yard, the reality is that it would be simply easier to meet up at a designated public location like a resort/hotel/campground and hang out. Too many people from all over the place, and distances are pretty far. Have discussed this for years on other car forums for simple car meet ups (none of the drama that happens here, these are just plain car-guys), but it does get too complicated and the 'ringleader' is often left holding the bag.

Still, I think it would be epic. Have the Driveway Nudist contest right AFTER the mud-wrestling or paintball contest....etc.

Little known fact: July is one of the nicer months in Florida. All of the snow birds are back north, and the roads and restaurants are not crowded. Believe it or not, it is often hotter and more humid here in NJ in July than it is where several family members live in Plantation FLA. :yesnod:

It’s a lot of work. :funny:

The best option is to hit Vegas together. Everyone does their own thing during the day and comes together to have dinner and hit some bars in the evening.

Several of us did Vegas together awhile back. A bunch of us drove in from the west/west coast. Olivier (GrandSportC3) flew from Florida and rented a big van (for everyone that flew in) to use. We had a pretty good crowd with everyone that drove and flew in, plus those that met up with us that lived in Vegas. One of the guys that lived in Vegas hosted a BBQ one of the nights.

It was fun. And there was no pressure for someone to plan activities for everyone’s day. :yesnod:

I did not serve, I had other selfish things that at the time I felt were more important to pursue. I have regretted that decision at many times in my life but my son made me proud. He was an E7 in the Air Force and went through their dental program and has done very well in the public sector with the education he received. I have often felt that there are far too many that don't show him the respect he deserves and earned.

I did not serve either, as was born in '64, and opted for college vs. military career. Doubt I would have finished a 2-year or 4-year gig, as I was a real smartass.

I know many who have served, have a former employee in right seat of B-52, have a good family friend who did multiple tours in the middle east.
All I know that have served are great people, we owe them for their commitment.

I have no problem with people that didn't serve. My problem is the one's that left the Country only to get amnesty. I got drafted and didn't leave the country. I paid for it getting 100% Military Disability but i'am glad i served. I look at the 36 guys from my hometown that died serving and didn't leave the country. The millions of KIDS what most of us were 17-19 years old had no plans with joining the Military we had other plans. We didn't agree with how we handle Vietnam but we still did our part as being American's. And now i look at the resistance we got more than 50 years ago from the same people/Party with the same mind set Fk'ing up my state.

The cool thing is, now that she is at the end of her life, she really, really regrets it from all the HATE that is focused on her every time you even google her name. Karma.

I didn't serve either. My dad and stepdad and grandfathers did. My great grandfather was a Civil War veteran....Union Army. Collected his $3 per month until he died in 1921.
I was born in '61, so my draft card ended right at the time Desert Storm started. I was registered from age 18. My biggest fear growing up in the '60's and early '70's was going to Vietnam, since it had been raging basically all of my life. God Bless our Veterans.73065

Florida makes the most sense since it seems to currently be very American and supports freedom.
I'd be arrested in California the first time some pierced, blue haired, nose-ringed, vegan, gender-confused, dipshit, had something to say to me.

Myself and many of my friends are conservatives. It's amazing what happens when you go over the Altamont pass and enter the working part of the state.

When I was TDY in San Louis Obispo back in 2009-ish, I was the brigade commo officer for the 166th Aviation Brigade (rotary). We were training up a Nasty Guard unit to deploy to the shit hole middle east. Before leaving, our Brigade XO (carpet munching bull dyke with a mullet) told me and a couple other conservative officers that we weren't allowed off post with out battle buddies because it was a very, very liberal college town and she didn't want us to end up in the news and/or jail :funnier:

I hope you found the grad...

Yep. My vote has been essentially wasted (except locally) for over 20 years here. All due to the Coastal Elitist Limousine Liberals who, somehow, think America is on the right track. Unreal. :seasix:

As someone who has planned one Cruise-In and hosted two Barn Raisings (one official, one not), I think it's a safe bet that when it comes to these forum gatherings, it's just too much work and not enough reward.

I mean, you're welcome to give it a shot, but I think that ship has sailed.

I am so glad I got to be part of the CI's and the Barn Raisings held in BG. Those were absolutely great times that I think will be very hard to repeat. Just a different world we live in today.
