Will be turning some laps in a C8 tomorrow and Tuesday. Will be good to be back at the track here. Been here 3 times before about 16 years ago. Hoping to win the autocross. :dance:

Day 1 in the books. Shiny side still up. Unlike the last time I was here, they now require helmets and HANS devices....and as you'd guess, I DO NOT FIT!!!


BUT....


They put me in one with a Kirkey racing seat and 5-point harness and I fit PERFECTLY! Tomorrow is going to be fun. In my afternoon lead/follow session, our group only had 5 drivers (vs. 6 for the other 2), I started first behind the instructor, and on a 1.5 mile course, we caught the tail end of the pack in 2.5 laps. :lol: There are two of us in our group who are seasoned. Tomorrow for the 3 lead/follow sessions, they will shuffle us around by skill level, and should make for much better lap times.

OH...and there was an entire film crew there today, and we all had to sign waivers, apparently GM is filming the school to put on their Corvette Academy website, so I may be in it. Also, there was a C8 Z06 hot lapping there today. :hurray:

Ron Fellows is a cool dude. Met him over a decade ago at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. Had a 4- or 5-year old Connor with me.

BTW, there's something wrong with that Corvette. I can't see the "Vipers Suck" decal... :D

I'm worn out, but I'll post pics and videos tomorrow. ****, I lost the autocross by 15/100ths of a second, same guy I was 9/100ths of a second faster than in the morning practice session, but the two of us gapped the rest of the field by a HUGE margin. I was 29.75 in the morning and he was 29.84.

Finished 3rd in overall track time, which I'm pleased with 1st and 2nd both road race regularly, and I vaporized both of them in the autocross.

I have been three times when Rupert Bragg-Smith owned school. It was always fun to go with instructors when they raced each other. C5 Z06 could do 160 MPH down back straight away.

You're smoking crack with your 160 mph claim. Bragg-smith owned the 2.2 mile track before John and Brad bought it from them and turned it into Spring Mountain. The ABSOLUTE MAX speed any car back then could turn on the back stretch was 130 mph. That's a pro driver in a C6 Z. C6's didn't exist when it was Bragg-Smith. :)

Interesting thing I caught on film while at the track...mind you, the car and the film truck were easily 3/4 miles from my vantage point in the observation tower.
