A LITTLE HISTORY:
Lived here 52 years, and Wilma was the latest storm in any season / year, hit us on OCT 24th.
Was either a Cat 1 or Cat 2, people still arguing about it.
I had minimal damage, but lost power for five days, that sucked, thankfully temps were not above 75 during those five days, and nights were about 10 degrees cooler, wife was a little upset I only wore underwear and a wife beater, and lost both for bed.
So, this new storm, Nicole, is off shore, not much as we speak, may hit Cat 1 status for landfall, hopefully not much but impacting me--my travel plans.
Have tickets and all other things to visit my eldest daughter in austin later this week, told wife she must go on her own, as need to be home for a storm, and also the two doggies need someone with them 24 hrs each day, as Ringo is too damn hyper during any kind of storm; we had a relative set-up to stop by twice a day and spend time there, but that is not sufficient with the storm.
I will be VB's reporter on the scene, eff that weather channel dood who always grabs headlines, I will be in the thick of it, and advising if my $100 Titleist Umbrella is as good as they claim--please send me all stuntmen requests.
.
Will be offering bourbom tasting info, the neighbor may be near to mooch some, I got plenty of Chef-Boy-R-Dees ready to go, still have a truckload of Halloween candy as I refused all teenagers in t-shirts--I should be good.
Doubt it will be much more than a rain event, some flooding in older parts of the county. Doubt if house will get hurt, but if so, like all in FL, I must pay the first $30+K in a claim before getting dollar one--that is the price of living in paradise.
If you do not hear from me after Thursday, assumed I played a little too much hero and met my end, or I am too drunk to get out of bed.
Wish me well fellow barners, we only live once, never pass on the change to ride out a hurricane!!
Eff those BS climate faker money-grabbers, storms happen whenever, it is called nature!!
A LA MIERDA LA TORMENTA!!

The bigger problem on the East coast is that it got twice the rainfall of the West coast during Ian. Rivers and lakes are still flooding as water drains dowwn and out. Much of the coast line has some fairly major ersion, and even a cat 1 or TS can dump a lot of water into the mix.
On the right side of things, many of the rich developers that have been overbuilding my county live on these lakes and streams and are still underwater. I love a good storm.:seasix:

Have tried finding info on old storms without much luck. Recently Randall Carlson came out with a video that had a good synopsis of them. Kind of long but worth watching if the subject interests you and you've nothing better to do (like me  ).

I've got the boart lashed to the boat house and the extra bracing still up from Ian - I'm good.
We are in St Lucie county. I may have to run out and get more Bourbon. But I always have to run out and get more bourbon.

You can never have too much bourbon. Not like it’s gonna go stale or something

I'm in the jacksonville area. Just need to fill up my truck after work today, get a fresh case of beer, another case of water, sammich meats and cheeses, and I'm good for what looks like is going to be a 5 day weekend for me.

We were planning to be in Port Canaveral today, but the storm changed that. Waving to you folks from a few hundred miles out in the Atlantic.

Path has moved less than a hundred miles north, I am still staying put in Broward, wifey is still going to austin.
One-tenth of one degree wiggle / movement and it could be on my doorstep, so I need to be at home, protecting the fortress, and making sure both doggies do not turn into fraidy cats.
I am heading to the golf course in a few minutes, as want to make an overall survey of potential soil saturations a big storn could bring.

1 P.M. Advisory has winds at 60, I am predicting 90+, as the waters in its path are extremely warm, there are no upper air currents to affect it.
May be a Cat 2 when landfall occurs, my home is rate at Cat 2.1 so I should be good!!

Drove from Orlando up to Amelia Island this afternoon. Signs on I4 and I95 advising hurricane warnings. Must have seen 50-60 utility trucks heading south on 95 between Daytona Beach and Jax

Okay, no landfall yet, as most know, looks like winds may be Cat 1, not 90+, I am heading home now to both doggies, I will advise if I die in the storm.
Stay safe, drink bourbon and domestic beer in bottles!!

Latest looks like landfall near Port St Lucie. I think that is where Vite1 is
Hopefully he has stocked up on enough bourbon

So it's not about having your roof tied down; it's about being too loaded to notice it's gone?

This is an odd storm, as it has been pretty true to its predicted path. It's wobbled a little but not appreciably changed much at all over the last 2-3 days. Usually the safest place to be is having the storm pointed directly at your house 2-3 days out. :Jeff '79:
Wind has been blustery all day around here, and looks like rain about to start, but overall I'm not too worried. Famous last words. :kick:
Nothing like a good tropical storm when you haven't had any rain for a while

I honestly can’t remember the last time I was drunk. I enjoy good Scotch or wine, I don’t enjoy getting drunk.

It’s about realizing the difference between a real storm and a media hyped non event. If we are in the path of a Cat 3 or greater you can bet we are booking out
This one will be a TS at most when it passes here

Correct, the hype is over-the-top, been near Orlando since '98 and there is bad, really bad and ho-hum. Except for some easily avoided coastal flooding due to Ian its just a storm; 29 mph wind peak here in Winter Garden, I've had that hit in a rogue wind that hard on my pontoon boat underway.

Final storm report for Broward--NOTHING but a rain event thankfully.
Only impact is I hope to get a tee time tomorrow that IS NOT cart path only.
Dolly Dolly was a trooper and a pooper, nothing broke her cycle, she got drenched on last night's walk, but made her deposit.
Ringo, sensitve little guy, he has not pooped in 24 hours, pretty certain he will have a gift waiting for me when I get home.
Very thankful for the minimal impact, hoping that all others fared well, as of now down to 50 mph winds, and messing with Tampa Bay area.

It was roughter than I thought here near Orlando, biggest chop I've ever seen on my lake in 20 years, like 3-1/2 foot rollers; I'll be replacing some lumber on my pier this weekend. Ugh!
