My '37 Imperial Business Couple had wheel bearings and axles that were larger than the Ford F-350 one ton trucks I was used to working on. The leaf springs were covered with sheet metal and zerk fittings were factory installed. The car had grease fittings on the starter linkage. When I got the car at 110,000 miles and at 55 years old, nothing was worn out. Frame was a full box ladder WITH an X frame and driveshaft loop. Sheet metal was 1/8" thick.
Yeah, until the mid/late '60's, cars were pretty much tanks. 71674

Now they are appliances and you have to spend near 100 grand on a pickup truck that's probably no more capable that the average 1950's sedan. :Jeff '79:
