View Full Version : [CFB] Week 7 2022 College Football Game Day Thread [/CFB]
WEEK 7
We've got another great week of games on tap, including 3 match-ups between undefeated teams at the top of their Power 5 Conference standings. There are 3 "Games of the Week" IMHO that will greatly determine where we end up and the end of the season.
Games of the Week:
#10 Penn State @ #5 Michigan - Penn State has been playing great ball, especially on defense. After giving up 31 to open the season in a close win against Purdue, the defense has locked it down, averaging giving up only 10 points per game over the last 4 games, including holding Auburn to 12 on the road and Northwestern to 7 last week. Big test for a Michigan offense that is now led by QB J.J. McCarthy, who Harbaugh feels gives the offense the extra dynamic it lacked against Georgia in their playoff loss to the Bulldogs. Winner remains unbeaten and tied with Ohio State atop the B1G East. Loser loses control of their B1G and playoff fate.
#3 Alabama @ #6 Tennessee - Tennessee is back! Josh Heupel has the Vols offense rolling, and has done an excellent job quickly turning around a former CFB elite program that spend years wandering in the desert following Phil Fulmer's retirement. This is a huge moment for them, getting Alabama in Knoxville this year and with Alabama QB Bryce Young banged up and questionable to be able to start this week. This is Tennessee's chance to make a triumphant return to prominence on a national stage in the CBS 3:30pm EST game. This is also Alabama's chance to silence the doubters and get right. A win here, and they're probably #1 again next week. Hopefully this one lives up to the hype, the atmosphere will be insane for sure.
#8 Oklahoma State @ #13 TCU - TCU defeated fellow surprising Big XII unbeaten Kansas last week, setting up this huge game between the only 2 unbeaten teams in the Big XII. The winner of this one is almost guaranteed a spot in the Big XII title game absent a major late season collapse. This is the best shot yet for Oklahoma State to FINALLY take that last step from just outside contender status to legit contender status. Texas isn't quite all the way back but looking on track, Oklahoma is a disaster. If Gundy can't win the Big XII this year and compete for a playoff spot, it's never going to happen.

Penn St. was overrated and got exposed. Gave up 31 points to Purdue who's not even a top 50 team. Beat the Ohio Bobcats, Beat a 3-4 Auburn, Beat Central Michigan, and barely beat a 1-5 Northwestern team. Stay away from Vegas Will. :yesnod:

Bama was there own worst enemy... 16 or 17 penalties. Almost impossible to win doing that. Their pass defense is horrible isn't it. Tenn looked good, way better than the last 10 plus years.
Mich State won in OT, Wisconsin gave it to them with a fumble.

This season is actually turning out to be a great season. Conferences are finally eating their own.
Bama has shown they have weaknesses and they finally got caught.
Georgia looks like a machine.
The USC - UCLA game may actually mean something for the first time in forever.
OSU vs Michigan could be a huge game in a few weeks.
Tennessee, WTAF?
Clemson? How in the hell can they be there? They can easily play out and then get absolutely crushed by any of the top 8 teams.
Great question... Who comes in second?
:withstupid:
Some comical results today, great games.
Hoping everyone understood their pecking order today.
lord knows they looked like the swallowed a ton of gobbelygook today!

Actually USC and UCLA aren't great teams, they're good but not BCS Championship good this year. I said before one of them will go to the Rose Bowl and the other Fiesta or Holiday. Now next year USC will be better than this year and UCLA will suck. :yesnod:

I wonder if the Dog will be "man" enough to give me a shot at winning my St. Jude bet back.
I'm thinking a straight up win loss regular season for $100 Alex.
Then GOD willing we play them in the playoff's to enhance the experience.
Straight up USC was 9-4 and Auburn was 8-5. Then Tuco crawfished and said uh.. i meant bowl games too CHEATED St. Jude out of $100. So Fk off Tuco your credibility in cfb sucks. :yesnod:

Well, USC and Oklahoma State pretty much eliminated the PAC and the Big XII from the playoffs. USC lost to a decent team though and just barely. I'm impressed, and I think once he gets a recruiting class or 2 of top defensive players, USC is playoff bound and contending for championships again. Not to mention that as soon as they begin B1G play, they're not going to be at a scheduling disadvantage anymore vs. the B1G and SEC teams. B1G really needs to keep the east & west divisions, put USC and UCLA in the West, and move 2 current west teams to the east. That will immediately make the divisions balanced and set up some incredible title games from a match-up and TV ratings POV. USC vs. Ohio State or Michigan = ratings gold. Traditional Rose Bowl match-ups in the B1G title game.
Stick a fork in Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State. They will N-E-V-E-R compete and take that next step. Stick a fork in the Big XII. Once OU and Texas leave, the Big XII is on par with the American or the Sun Belt.
ACC looking good for one playoff spot since they all suck outside of Clemson who will cake-walk to an unbeaten record unless this is the year the Gamecocks finally beat them again.
SEC looking good since Georgia is still Georgia and Tennessee beat Alabama. Odds for 2 SEC teams went up bigly with Tennessee's win. No one Alabama faces in the West the rest of the way is anywhere near as good as Tennessee. SEC title game will probably be 1-loss Alabama vs. winner of Georgia-Tennessee.
B1G Ten also looking good since Ohio State and Michigan look even better than last year's versions. Michigan isn't as good on the D-Line/pass rush, but overall look much better, especially on offense.
Honestly the playoff should probably be 2 SEC teams and 2 B1G teams, but Clemson is likely going to sneak in above a superior team by virtue of their garbage conference.
The B1G and SEC should tell the rest of D1 college football to piss off, leave the NCAA, and just create their own league, bowl tie-ins, and playoff. Their playoff could be Top 4 teams in each conference playing a playoff, with eventual SEC and B1G champs playing each other in the title game. The tiny handful of worthy teams not in either conference going forward (Notre Dame, Clemson, FSU, Oregon, MAYBE Miami if they ever get serious about football again) would face extreme pressure to join or be rendered irrelevant. Outside of those handful, none of the crap leftover in the PAC, Big XII, or ACC matters anyway and is just getting in the way of having a superior product. The SEC and B1G teams could play only each other for their out of conference games, which would not count towards conference standings and playoffs, and we'd have a shit ton of incredible non-conference games on the schedule. Imagine regular season match-ups like Ohio State vs. Alabama, Michigan vs. Tennessee, USC vs. Georgia, etc., etc. etc.
well, so much for undefeated USC. i'll still cheer them on from afar. :DAB:

ncaa allows for such, a&m is a culprit also, as are many.
Serves these teams well, they get a nice record, plenty of revenue and stay in the top of the polls longer than those who take on equals.
I do not agree with it, but it works, osu and the like have proven over the years it is a very good, and rewarding, strategy.
I can only think of one school, actually one coach during his era, who would play anyone anywhere:
