Since you can never own it outright due to property taxes, why bother.
I think the realtor will be a better bet on your 27 million.

Allodial Law and Legal Definition
“Allodial means free from the tenurial rights of a lord, as opposed to feudal land. It refers to absolute ownership of land by individuals, rather than feudal property ownership, which is dependent on relationship to a lord or the sovereign. Allodial land is not subject to any rent, service, or acknowledgement to a superior.
Most property ownership in the common law world is held in fee simple. Fee simple ownership represents absolute ownership of real property but it is limited by the four basic government powers of taxation, eminent domain, police power, and escheat and could also be limited by certain encumbrances or a condition in the deed.”

Are those net worth values from 1979? seems really low in this modern era and with cali home prices.
Linville, with a median home price of only 1.2 million would be hard pressed to attract a full priced buyer for that place listed above.
Explain please. I have never owned a home. I know, I am an idiot.
Aside from the "feudal" theory, property taxes are a never ending expense. In this area of NC, the tax bill for that property would be about $160k per year. That same property in New York would be over a half-million/ year.
I have no idea what the property taxes are in California.

They import buyers from a much larger geographical area.

Even IF I had Billions like Trump/etc......I fail to see mutch reeson Y I wood spend so much on some over large maintenance special that I would use maybe 7 rooms of it in a typical day.....and 3 of them be garage space......so that means Bath, Kitchen, Living room---TV/computer/office, bedroom..... and maybe 2 extra bedrooms.....so the house wood be custom built, and total space be about 3000' plus garage space.....

A house like that has to have a special type of buyer.
1. Ostentatious and so rich, would hire a staff to maintain it, wants the bragging rights in one of the wealthiest communities.
2. Corporate owner who needs to impress clients.

TL;DR:
Even if you own your home outright, you still pay rent to the government each year, and your use of the property is at the pleasure of same government. They can restrict your use, or take it away from you as they see fit, even if you pay your rent, AKA property tax, on time every year.

But politics is not what has driven housing prices to insane levels. Too many people and not enough desirable land did that. And housing prices are the lion's share of the COL differences between here and "normal" places.

I have heard that many are leaving due to crime, state and local ahole pols, high state income taxes that continue to increase, socialism run wild, etc...

Baller, and a wise one, as appears he knows how to get the most out his time by hiring competent people.
With that said, owning a big boat is a PITA, I know a $B dood who bought a 75' tri, as that is the perfect size to have only a captain and an occasional mate / hand.
That yacht show is scripted, but I still think the headaches are common for all owners.

Your simple generalization amuses me...
I guess I must have moved due to politics then.
Problem is without moving, it's pretty hard to spend property. Those numbers should be without real estate as many, many people I knew there were wanna be ballers only when they added equity. Pretty useless if you want to stay. You can mortgage your balls to the wall, as many were, and they still said, "but my house is worth 7 figures".

Most of the folks I see here in CO are cashing out from ~$600k to $1M equity positions and using that to put 40% down here and living on the rest. People in high rent suburbs like Manhattan Beach are pretty much staying put, as why the hell would you want to move? We see lots of east bay and inland LA folks coming as they can move from 2500 square feet to 4500 square feet. They are not buying here for cash, but their $ go much further.
The time of $300k - $450k new homes here is long gone for the most part in nicer sections. From 2012 to 2017, there was a huge influx of CA peeps that moved here for two main reasons: First, they could not afford to buy a sizeable home for their family where they wanted in CA. $600 - $700k in CA was about half price here. Still at ~2500 square feet, but in a new and nice neighborhood. Plus, their commute was 15 minutes. Second, and much more driving, were the families trying to get out of the CA school system(s). I found it easy to hire a 25 - 30 y/o with a couple of kids and giving them a free relocation for several years during that time.

I have neighbors both from Virginia that had 3,600 and 4,000 sq. ft homes with a couple of acres. Both homes paid off. Came out here and it was a down payment. Most people i know that have moved out here from other states the last 10 years sold their home's and could only get a condo or townhome here.
So you decide the pros and cons like you do with every state you move too.
I lived in the south, you couldn't give me a mansion with 30 acres free to live there, but millions of people like it there. I lived in the midwest, the same thing, but millions of people love it there. Pros and cons in every state. I won't ever move because the pro's outweigh the cons here. The Liberal Gov. here doesn't affect my lifestyle just like the Liberal idiot in the White House doesn't affect my lifestyle enough for me to leave my state or country.
In part yes.

To a degree but politics are absolutely a big driver of housing prices everywhere.
From interest rate manipulation to outright buying of mortgage backed securities, government has been a huge force behind housing price increases.

I was in South Carolina and North Carolina last November and I could not believe how Liberal NC was in comparison. Everybody was wearing masks in their cars, wearing tie-dye shirts, had purple hair, etc. South Carolina reminded me of America in the 1960's.
North Carolina is rapidly becoming a liberal shithole, IMO. And I have family there.
In the last 20 to 25 years the libtards from NE have flocked to NC to escape the bullshit and have started it here. This state is very different now unfortunately. Larger cities are worse of course.

This is what liberals have been doing for the past 40 years. All from California. First it was Oregon. Then Washington. Now Nevada, Arizona, Texas, NC, all over the place. They soil their own environment with their whacko policies to the point where it is unlivable, and then move to a conservative area and start all over. It's a disease. Like cancer. Look at what happened to Canada in the past 40 years. From conservative, low crime beauty to liberal, draconian socialism and high crime. It's a travesty.

California was Conservative right up until the 90's. We still have had more Conservative Governors than Liberals here. But all the Liberals came out here for work, weather, scenery, and money. Unfortunately a lot of Liberals have money.

It's the Floridiots who summer here. This morning I was drinking my first coffee, and saw a gal walking up the mountain wearing a paper mask. She must have thought that the morning fog was smoke or something.
Spent a week in Asheville last summer. First time we ever stayed there. Very surprised how liberal left leaning the city was. Doubt we will be going back
Asheville happens to have the largest private home in the US.

This is SO TRUE! Fortunately, MOST of NC is conservative. You only get the blue haired freaks in Raleigh, Asheville, and some of Charlotte. They steer clear of the rural areas because they know they're not welcome here. I've only spoken with ONE Harris voter in my area and it was like seeing a glitter-shitting unicorn. This is Trump country ALL THE WAY.

When I was 25 struggling with a young family I just wanted a house, pretty much any house. Bought one that needed constant work - basically a second job.
When I was 35 I wanted a better house than my co-workers, friends and neighbors and to hold a bunch of adult toys. And maybe even a second house, and I wanted to impress people.
At 55 I was traveling and working sooo many hours I was never home and a camper/RV would have been sutiable.
Closing in on 75 and having built 4 houses all over the east coast, I find now that my latest dream house is too big, too hard to maintain and the source of some jealousy among family (which I hate) and will prob downsize soon and bank 3/4 of a million or so and still spend my later years in a nice, smaller home...
So - at this point, I don't give two cork kernel encrusted turds about some rich f*ckers house value....and won't clink links to see them and find people obsessed with them amusing.
At one point between two homes I had over 6000 square feet, 6-1/2 bathrooms, and two of just about everything (washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, lawn mowers...). Downsizing to less than half of that has been awesome.
When that house went up for sale I looked at the realtor's pictures, and all I could think of was, how would I clean that, how would I paint that...

i never got into the "buy a huge ****ing house" hype like there was 20 years or so ago. I just wanted something under 2000 sq feet, on acreage and far enough from neighbors that I can't hear them fart. Accomplished that goal...
Also wanted a shop that was just a bit bigger than the house, accomplished that too.
Now just enjoying the dream, though this state is ****ed up but at least the weather is nice

Destroys yaddy's narrative, as do I with every single post.
nc is not what it once was, it is on par with VA, and will soon by NY or NJ.
Comparing FLORIDA to nc is a BIG joke, but we will allow his BS, as it is entertaining.

Weaker than circus lemonade, your state is turning, a liberal cesspool by the next POTUS election.
You may have pockets of good areas, but the state is not getting any better.
It is a haven for those we will not allow to move to FLORIDA, which inlcudes you.

I am only 120 miles east of the meeting place, no need to bum a ride from those traveling from any other direction.
Given my driving skills, and record for outrunning the popo, my travel time is under 30 minutes.
With that said, I am very envious of the doods in your RV, I may have to add myself.
Lastly, original commitment was only Friday, as 'had' a family event in St Pete for the weekend.
Appears the event will be cancelled and rescheduled, so I should be there the entire weekend.
I will need a room partner, or at least a room 'paying' partner, as once I meet the ladies on the hotel staff, the roommate will be spending their night on the porch furniture.

To be financially comfortable in Southern California, you'd need a net worth of $1.3 million. Here's what it takes to be considered wealthy in 2022 by city ans ranked by net worth thresholds: San Francisco: $5.1 million. Southern California (includes Los Angeles and San Diego): $3.9 million.Jul 3, 2022

Hello...Newman. No I do not. In 2008 I did purchase a 1993 corvette Ruby 40th Anniversary Edition, in 2016 I sold it. I had a lot of fun working on it and it spent a lot of time in the garage receiving TLC on my days off. I have posted these pictures many times on both forums. :seasix:

My daily driver is a Toyota 2014 FJ Cruiser. I enjoy it as well and have taken it Hunting, Fishing, Camping, to the coast in Washington and Oregon, To the Hoh National Rainforest ...many miles up narrow logging roads almost to Mt Olympus. Thank you. Do you watch Softroading the West or Coyote Works on youtube? Both Oregon based guys, both have great content, although Coyote Works vids are few and far between.
I've had Toyota 4x4 trucks for the past 35 years and wouldn't have anything else. My '05 Tundra has pretty much replaced my '83 HiLux for a bug-out vehicle these days. It just hit 88,000 miles. The '83 has about 300k and the engine has never been touched. Runs great. :seasix:
