Question:
I am shipping a small amount of chemicals. The Hazard Class is Class 9 HOWEVER...the amount of chemicals is an "excepted" amount. That should mean it is not a hazard.
We initially placed this label on the shipment...

But the recipient is asking that we use this label along with the one above...

This would seem to be in conflict, no?
Excepted? Doesn't that mean they can't ship it? :confused5:

It means the quantity is below the threshold of being hazardous. :seasix:
What is an excepted quantity?
An excepted quantity is a defined amount of a specific hazardous material, eligible for transport aboard passenger aircraft, which is not subject to any DOT requirements (e.g., packaging, marking, labeling, etc.) other than those in 49 CFR 173.4a.

I’m guessing you have looked at the 49 CFR 172.101 table already

This shit will run you in circles.
Column 6 specifies codes which represent the hazard warning labels required for a package filled with a material conforming to the associated hazard class and proper shipping name, unless the package is otherwise excepted from labeling by a provision in subpart E of this part, or part 173 of this subchapter.

How much are you shipping?
In liquid volume or total shipping volume?
The product contains small glass vials with a very small amount of acid in them
There are 6 pallets of product. If you collected all of the acid in the shipment and poured it in to a single container, there might be two cups, maybe less.
In liquid volume or total shipping volume?
Shipping volume, also shipping within the US?

Colombia
6 pallets - 48x40x52 - 225lbs each
Class 9 items are just anything that does not have a specific class and do not require that label if I remember right as long as you're not shipping bulk or internationally. Carriers are also not required to placard the truck either unless it's bulk.
The recipient may require that label to bring it into their facility, that's what we did at O'stock, I would sticker it and call it a day. Anyways, that what I remember.
**** yes it will need to be labeled if it ships out of the country.
