I don't have one but do have a in-ground hot tub and I pay $0 to "open it". :D
I know my idiot friend is able to open his each year by himself. If he can do surely you can learn how.

IGP= In Ground Pool
Reconnecting all the fittings, and such, adding chemicals, swimming, having fun, do you hear me now:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Think of it this way:
You are going to need about $100 or so in chemicals. It is going to take you about three or four hours of your time. Is it worth $50/hour of your time to not mess with it plus the piece of mind knowing it was done correctly?
What I would do is closely watch what this guy is doing, ask questions, and take notes (act like you are texting to somebody on your phone if you want to be covert.)
Next year you should be able to swing it yourself easily, maybe get a friend or your wife to help out.

I'm guessing prices vary by region. I recommend calling a few places and see what they charge.

Well i am using the people who installed it and also closed it, they usually do it when i am at work, and of course the wife doesnt watch, so i really have no clue what they actually do, so i told them that i needed to watch, and they keep giving me the run a round about that they need to reschedule me, i told them its OK, as long as i am their to see what they are doing.

In Texas, pools are kept open year round, just like in Florida. :) (Well, we do anyway.)
