Peeped the film adaptation of Ayn Rand's classic this weekend and was very impressed. Its definitely an independent film, huge stars but it was very well done.

The story line stays pretty true to the novel, even to include a lot of the dialogue. It is somewhat condensed, and its definitely helpful to have read the book, or go with someone who has, but considering the epic scale of the book it was inevitable. The actors fit their roles very well, the actress who plays Dagny Taggart is excellent.. It seems that the people who made this movie happen had a very high respect for the book, I just hope they are able to make the other two parts in a timely fashion using the same cast.

They set the movie in 2016, and given what's going on in this country today, its not that much of a stretch. I may go see it again, and will definitely reread the book.

I just finished reading the book for the first time this weekend, and am looking forward to seeing this movie. I hope I don't have to travel to see it, but will do so if necessary.

Sucks living in BFE.

it really does only cover the first third of the book (it end's with Wyatt's disappearance, oil fields ablaze).

Yeah, there's no way they can cover that book in 2 hours with any sense. I think of it like doing Lord of the Rings in 2 hours. Not possible.

I think it's a weird dichotomy.

People like the message, if not the mechanics of the movie itself.

Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/atlas_shrugged_part_i/) has it as a 6%, but 85% of movie goers enjoyed it.

You won't believe the ending... the butler did it.

In the library, with a candlestick. :yesnod:

Everything I've read says the movie is crap.

That's probably due, in no small part, to the source material.

Now see, I won't even bother seeing it now. In the book, there wasn't even a butler. Or candlestick. :kick:
