I was asked to join a private club in the area. Joining fee plus an annual. I've never been interested in this type of thing, to be part of some "in crowd". I just don't see any real benefit.

That's kinda what I was thinking.

Years ago I had a developer client that sent his kids to an expensive private school and I asked him why- the school district we were in was excellent. He said it was so he could have access to the wealthy parents.

I don't need the access.

You joke, but one place I still want to visit is one of those Russian Bath houses where they strip you, beat you with evergreen branches, put you in a sweat box, then send you outside and rub your body down with snow, send you into a frozen lake, then back indoors for a hot oil massage and a steam bath.
