Sold the '94 convertible a few days ago. Had a few issues I didn't want to deal with. The ac leaking down (no idea), bad heater core ($500 to repair), scuff on the bumper when I got it ($900 to r&r), and a cracked windshield that happened back in April ($380). Time to go.
I have a policy that when my investment reaches the break-even point, I sell the car. That way I don't lose money even if I only break even. At least I drive them for free. If I make a profit, then I got paid to drive it. I still made a little on this one.
Been driving the '98 Eldorado ETC. Just about to turn 34k miles any day now. I love the crap out of this one. I thought about buying another one to use as a dd.
So now car shopping for the next cruise. Let's see what happens.:BADRACR1:

How much? $$$ I've tried to always do the same. Never made much, but, had fun and came out a little ahead each time.

Get your husband to fix that stuff and you might make a profit next time. :seasix:

I once bought a 1964 Rambler station wagon for $50, & flipped it for $75 after a year. :seasix:

Unlike you, newb, I have a wife.:BADRACR1:
I could have fixed the issues but then would have been too much in to turn an easy profit.

Baby Doll and I just celebrated our 36th anniversary, so you are wrong on that too.
Maybe if you could fix things yourself you could turn a profit, instead of pawning off problems on someone else.

Again, I did turn a profit. To have fixed the issues would have negated any profit. The car is only worth so much.
As far as doing the repairs myself I was an actual mechanic for years. The only thing I would have had to get fixed would have been painting the bumper. I chose not to do the repairs.
Also, any potential buyer was made aware of the defects. They were listed in the ad along with pics of the areas.
I have had well over two hundred cars. Only lost money on a handful. This was usually due to keeping them too long and putting too much investment into them.

Logic says otherwise. Since few can fix things...

:Jeff '79: Lots of Snowflakes melting today.
My two cents: 1. $500 is dirt cheap to replace the heater core on that car. I wouldn't do it for that. I love working on old cars, but many later than 1990 are simply no fun.
2. Driving a 1998 Caddy as a daily makes you a braver man than I. Very trouble-prone and marginal cars.
Sold my C8 recently after putting 4300 trouble fee miles on it in a year. looking for my next toy.

I have friends that own repair shops is the only reason I can get it done at that price. I'm sixty-one years old, and the thought of working under that dash is not appealing any more. I like doing my own repairs, but no desire for punishment if is isn't necessary.
I liked the car, but the combination of heater core repair, ac repair, windshield, and the bumper repair would put me in at more than I would get for the car when it was time to sell and I knew it wasn't a keeper when I bought it. I just bought another just like it in better condition for less than I sold mine for.
I get the Caddie sentiment. They aren't for everyone. The Eldorado only has 34k. I had another '98 I sold at 120k about ten years ago. Also had an Allante (low miles, but don't remember) and a Seville with 130k when I sold it. All Northstars. No problems with any of them. Actual reports show less that ten percent of all engine failures on Northstars are head gaskets. More likely is the oil leak issue. Like the LT1 the biggest issues are caused by a lack of maintenence. Plus the Caddie is very rare, one of only 52 produced in Light Medici red metallic with matching Medeci red leather interior. Not quite as fast as the Corvette but it sure does ride better! And it won't be a daily. Neither will the Corvette. I have an F150 for that.

I have a 97 and 98, one's pushing 275k and other 160k.. Daily drivers and I'd drive either across conutry anytime. The ride is unbelievable and excellent quality. Maintenence is maintenence every vehicle has its pos and negs. I anticipate getting another 150k out of both. I'd snatch a Seville up that era in good condition in a second.

Gosh no. He cried for a month after spending used c6 money, no way my ears could handle him spending c8 money in this market.
