On another forum I frequent, a guy's daughter got this at a garage sale.

What does he have? ( ten .57 paper cartridges ready to be torn open and loaded into a muzzle loader? )

I believe that is a reproduction, or pure fantasy construct. A quick search for CS cartridge packaging shows very different script and (of course) obvious age on the packs.

Wow. Part of it looks the biz. and then some of it a little suspect. The boldness of the ink '1863' where the month should be handwritten and there is a lot of debate about cart. labels after the early year of the war. Whether they were used or not and just stamped onto the paper vs a glue on label.

I know there are stamps available to reproduce labels or use on paper and the twine around the pkg.

I'll ask some others their opinion about it. Super cool either way!!!

Very well could be fake. If it's real, it's in fantastic shape for being 159 years old.

I have one original cart. in my collection. Very fragile. I have seen arsenal packs for sale at thousands of dollars depending on arsenal or rifle type. A single cart. like I have usually goes for around $100

It's cool and I'm sure was good deal at the sale for display purposes.

Reproduction stuff is so good these days some dealers won't even buy belt buckles. There is one place that melts down original CW period red brass and has molds made from original buckles. They will make you one for $300.

If they paid 5 or 10 bucks.....still worth it especially if you can load it and fire if modern enough!
