I use PushBullet. It's free until you reach some monthly limit. Unsure what that is. Often I get warnings that I'm approaching but never hit the limit. It works on Android... don't know about iphone.
I've also used a microsoft app on my laptop... MyPhone, maybe. Don't recall.

We're knee-deep into the Apple "ecosystem" here, so our Macs, iPads & iPhones all send/receive text messages, & synchronize across all devices. Works well for us.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'm on a single iPhone, no other phones or devices.
The products mentioned so far appear to be Android.
Edit:
I'm looking for a PC solution, I just mention my phone service because it might be pertinent? I just want to send texts from from my PC, the phone type of the recipient is whatever.

So what software/services do they employ?

So what software/services do they employ?
Built-in app called Messages. (I think it used to be called iMessage, not sure.) It can send to non-Apple devices using standard SMS.

It's inherent in the OS. All you need to do is set it up. The actual app you use is called Messages, but that's not really what would help you.
The MAC laptop that I'm on doesn't really send the message, it does so through a connection to my iPhone, which is inherent to the OS.
You should look for an app that would connect your PC to your iPhone. I'm guessing it will only be SMS, at best, but worth a shot.
There might be ability directly from PC using the Phone app.

The app is built into the latest versions of Win10 and Win11. It works very well, too.

I ran the app I assume you were referring to and this is what I got in settings, only the EULA type shit appeared to be viewable, nothing else resolved to a function.
Any further advice would be appreciated. :hurray:
You can send a text to a Verizon wireless customer through your email provider.
Not sure about other providers.

Type in "Your Phone" no quotes.
If it's not in your computer already its in the app store.
It can pull images directly from your phone, do messaging and make calls.

to what type of device?
If you're trying to send a text to a cell phone - from your desktop or laptop PC's email... then

For AT&T, send an email to:

My apple devices not only send and receive texts, I can answer my phone on any of my devices, stream any media to my televisions and look for porn all at the same time.
