I set up an appointment with an Attorney quite a while back for a Will and some other basic stuff. Wife came with me today and we had a plan. I wanted her to advise and make sure I don't screw it up
Making a long story short. She was not allowed accompany me into the lawyers office because she was not doing any planning yet until I was done.
We barely got started and I didn't appreciate the way he told her she couldn't come in along with a few other things, words were exchanged along with "asshole" came out of my mouth in front of his staff. :D
So is this a common requirement that a spouse is not allowed?

Not at all common in my experience. Wife and I have always met together with attorneys for wills and estate planning.

Gotta agree with Steeb. Every meeting with attorney or financial advisor has always been both of us

It'll be two weeks ( guy at work wife worked for the same lawyer for 45 years - on vacation in FL ) but I'll have my friend Chris check with his wife.
Sounds like he wanted to "maximize billing" :slap:
BS. She's always been with me for will stuff.

Sounds good-sort of. After what happened today, I sent an email to the HMFIC and we'll see what happens tomorrow

Simple will. Legalzoom in my opinion. If it is straight forward.

Could be the wife is cheating with the lawyer and is going to divorce you and take all your shit. Seen it happen before.
:ohnoes:
We go together! Went with a well regarded elder care outfit and we got all sorts of legal shit taken care of.
Wills, power of attorneys, medical proxies, putting most of our things including house in a trust.
Some of these things have a five year period before they can take affect. We did it ten years ago.

^ Probably
My wife and I put our houses and other assets in a trust, instead of a will. The attorney began "Talking over me" to the point of being rude. I tolerated this for about 15 seconds, and when he paused, I told him to shut his ****ing mouth. Apparently, he was unused to this.....I went on.....Me, client. You attorney.
I pay, you shut up and listen to what I want. Got that?
Many apologies from said asshole attorney, and a good price break is the only thing that kept me from walking out.
In my experience and IMHO, just about ALL attorneys are about one click from pond scum.
YMMV
Wife and I are doing wills, POAs, etc now. All meetings have been with both of us.

And the OP didn't tell the lawyer to eat a bag of dicks before leaving the office to go find another liar...err...lawyer?
you made an appointment with an atty. you are the client. not you and your wife. if you want to have both of you talk to him, you need to make that clear. he's just doing standard lawyer stuffs.

That wasn't our experience a few weeks ago.

Sounds like BS to me. Wife & I have always met with attorneys, for whatever reasons, together. I think we would have been out the front door of your attorney's office while he was still running his mouth.
B.S.!
Find another attorney.
Consider a Trust!!

I could walk in there with a football team. My money, my time.
