Mazda Public Radio ???

Over the past couple of weeks, some people who listen to KUOW in their Mazdas say their car radio is permanently stuck on 94.9 FM. It’s only affecting Mazdas from 2016, and we have no idea why.

Mazda drivers in and around Seattle this week discovered they could no longer change the radio station or play anything else in their cars after listening to the local NPR station KUOW.

The issue affected owners of various Mazda vehicles with model years ranging from 2014 to 2017 that were tuned in to the station. According to KUOW, it’s been happening for weeks.

What the unsuspecting commuters tuning in discovered was a bug in the car’s infotainment software that crashed after trying to load the HD Radio broadcast image KUOW submitted. The image file was missing an extension, and the infotainment software could not decode it and had no process for handling it.

According to some Reddit users, the issue sounds even worse. Some owners reported losing Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to play CDs, as well as a disabled backup camera and powerless USB ports for charging phones. One user warned against disconnecting the car’s 12-volt battery when troubleshooting, as you can lose the ability to even listen to KUOW.

This all sounds like something that could have been fixed with a software update, but it turns out the solution is to replace the CMU, which is the $1,500 hardware computer component of the infotainment system.

The good news is that Mazda is telling dealerships this repair should be submitted as a “good will” repair, which means it should not cost anything for customers affected by it. The bad news is the part is not available anywhere due to chip shortages, so it could take weeks or months.

In the end, the issue is a software bug that could have been fixed through an update. Although some of the Mazdas here are too old to have OTA updates, it should at least have a way for dealerships to install updates for customers.

That'll teach you to purposely tune into government funded propaganda.

Who the hell listens to NPR except fragile libtard snowflakes?

I honestly didn't know NPR still existed.

Went to the dot org to see how much it's costing us. Surprise surprise there's not a dollar amount mentioned anywhere on the page but they did make the claim that less than 1% of their revenue comes from government. Then show a pie chart detailing 4% Typical thieving liberal operation. My guess is the discrepancy can be easily explained using kickbacks to the politicians.

Not that it can't be useful. Probably is a good idea. For example I just learned this about deer from a PBS video -

Who is the first person, and why, did they think about testing deer for COVID? How about dogs, cats, bats, mice, raccoons, etc, etc, etc? Could be a whole new industry. :seasix:

Any liberal with grant money, which is always there for the taking to study absolutely useless topics.

Give them time.. Another govt funded project.

Few years back a university had a several hundred thousand dollar grant to study which way dogs were pointing(N, S, E, W) when the peed... The local news anchors (prior to complete lefty rule) were questioning the validly of paying people to watch dogs pee and what direction.

They weren't looking for it. It was discovered during testing for wasting disease (aka mad cow syndrome). BTW, the deer show no symptoms of being sick.

Ah, NPR. I remember when they were actually listenable. Probably back in the early 90's I used to have my alarm clock tuned to WAMU. They had a nice mix of real news, local news and personal interest stories. It has become a liberal echo chamber with the staff giving each other handies.

I had the radio delete in my ride:rofl:

I wonder how anyone actually discovered there was a problem?

Somebody still had to say "Hey, while we're testing deer for chronic wasting disease we should also test them for COVID."

Just to be safe, the next time I see deer running through our hood, I'll offer them the free masks we've received in the mail.
