Washed these wheels off of the car and installed on Friday. 2 days of racing and now this.
Best news of the weekend, the alignment, after the THIRD attempt held. I think that issue has been solved.

The worst vehicle I ever owned for brake dust was an SL500. It was terrible

I owned two E series MB and both where that way too, but they could stop on a dime!

Must run in the family; my AMG is ridiculous for dust. A 10 mile drive after a wash and the wheels are noticeably dusty again.

They did stop well. A 4000# two seater is pretty hefty too.

My BMW 645 was terrible with brake dust as well, but like the others, it stopped damned fast from speed.

the Merc SL500 was bad
the Jaq XJS SC is worse
the FGT is by far the worst...
direct correlation to caliper size I would say?

That's why you're supposed to have black rims so you don't care about the dust :willy:
A little experiment on brake dust after a run at VIR.
Wiped the wheels clean before getting on the track, after running some pics.
Dirty one, Carbotech's ceramic.
Clean one, Powerstop ceramic.

Gotta love German cars :seasix:
This pic will make Giraffe-man want to pull his hair out :thomas: the Bimmer after a spirited mountain run yesterday…those brake calipers are bright blue in color when clean :Jeff '79:

That would drive me insane. I'd have to wash that the instant I got home.

Norm. Let me know when ya hit VIR again

Three times back in '16 & '17, we had the club run down and do the "charity run". This was not the normal 60-70mph runs around the track, this was no racing but flat out running.
We did those during the lunch perod of other race car companies that were testing (BMW, Caddie, etc.) And we had a blast, I ruined quite a few tires during those runs. :D
I tried to set that up this year, but it was so restrictive with large insurance riders, certifications and HPDE training, we had to back off.
Most likely will not go again. We did enjoy the pizza at Aunt Millies in Milton, NC.:seasix:

Nope. My daily OEM rims are black. They look like crap in 2-3 days of street driving. Gotta remember, the ferrous nature of the brake pad material is iron. It turns reddish. Black rims look just as crappy as light-colored rims.

I don't mind cleaning my wheels. Having a lift makes that easy. As a racer, I prefer the best brake pads for the intended purpose, and that comes at a price of dust and noise. Like Norm said, you can get low dust ceramic pads, but the stopping prowess is sub par for my intended use.

I think black actually looks *worse* than light colored wheels when dirty. Much worse.

I had a white Trans Am with white wheels so I beg to differ on that one, I'd given a nut for ceramic pads back then.
