Man runs 99 miles home after completing London Marathon
By Chris Chase

Sam Robson did what most people do after completing a marathon: He went home and fell asleep. Except rather than drive to his house, 99 miles away from the finish line of the London Marathon, Robson ran back. All the way.
The 28-year-old from Central England finished Sunday's official race in 3 hours and 45 minutes before starting on the 99-mile second leg. He arrived to his home in St. Ives Cambs about 25 hours later, greeted by a cheering crowd. In total, he ran 125 miles in 29 hours, a pace of around 13 minutes per mile.
That number sounds insane, but it's even more mind-boggling if you really think about it. Think back to what you were doing five hours ago yesterday. Now imagine you've been running since then. I don't know if most people could stay awake that long, let alone do anything remotely physical.
Robson, a medical researcher, completed the super-marathon to raise money for the UK Epilepsy Society. In all, he raised a little more than $5,000 for the charity. Robson has suffered from the condition since he was a teenager.
He told reporters that the running itself was easy, but staying up, keeping hydrated and ingesting calories (to make up for the 15,000 he burned) was the hard part.
"I had to have regular breaks to refill my water and whenever I stopped my legs seized up so I couldn't rest for long. In terms of tiredness, my legs felt pretty good and the worst bit was I had to keep eating to replace all the calories I was burning.
One day after his mega-run, Robson said he was doing fine except for some soreness. That's to be expected. It wasn't just his first 99-mile run, it was his first marathon too.

Bet he doesn't have any toenails left.

I've done 3 marathons, and have lost at least 1 toenail per event, also during training.

Holy cow! He's a running fool. I have been running about 20 years, done a few marathons, but have never lost a toenail.....never even had one turn black.

Lol.....my mom is a runner too, smaller than I (shorter), and has lost a few toenails. I think it has to do with the length. I cut mine whenever I see white, they never go past my toes. Now, my tootsies take a beating too.....those last few miles of a marathon takes it's toll on them doesn't it. Mine go numb and I feel like I am walking on peglegs!haha. I don't see how the ultrarunners do it.....madness I say!:hurray:

Everything after 21 miles is brutal for me. First time I hit the wall was horrible. I was better prepared in the 2nd marathon. Ran a 4:29:26.

Third marathon I was 11 minutes faster through the halfway point, but sprained my ankle at mile marker 16. :( I asked for medical assistance. They told me I'd have to sit at the aid station until the sweeper came to pick up the stragglers who won't finish under the maximim amount of time allowed...roughly 3 hours. It was 38 degrees!! I decided not to wait, walked for several miles and then was able to get back into it. Still finished with a 4:59 with a grapefruit-sized ankle.

Omgoodness! You are a glutton for punishment.haha. Good thing for endorphins! You are right though, the last couple of miles are mentally brutal. Oddly, the first one I ever ran was the one and only time I didn't hit the wall. I had to go potty, but there wasn't a portajohn past the 18 mile marker. I couldn't pull over anywhere cuz it was downtown Birmingham. I guess my focus was elsewhere!lol. Great marathon times, btw.

I'm back training again. I may do Vegas this Winter. I need to break 4 hours. That's kind of the holy grail for the casual runner.

Cool! Good luck with your goal! Should be a flat one out there, huh? Have you done Disney? Yeah, my days of breaking 4 hrs. are over, me thinks. My pr was 4:06. I try training for one at the end of every summer, sometimes I make it, sometimes not.....then I will just run two Half's and call it even!lol I love the half marathons, they are the perfect distance cuz it just takes a little training......and not much recovery.

All 3 I've done were Disney. 2 of the 3 were brutally cold. I refuse to do another one there. Vegas is straight. From what I remember, the first 6 miles are at a slight incline and the last 20 are downhill.
