Wife and I are wanting to add a sunroom to our home and called this company for a bid. 14X12 = $72,000.00 with unfinished floor, WTF!

Anyone ever use this company? I’m not in the industry but internet sites suggest high end finished should/could run around $350.00 a square. Consumer abuse or the new normal?

OMG! Just my .02. I think all these sun room, bathtub, windows, gutters companies that advertise on tv are way more expensive than just getting someone local. I know someone that used the gutter ad and she is still making payments. We used a local business for our larger gutters with the guard and were able to write him check after installation.

Pass.Perxactly.

Even with the walls of windows it shouldn't be more than 150 per sqft completely finished.

The guy wanted a third down too and we did pass. Looking for someone local but that isn’t risk free either. Lots of these smaller companies are carrying a lot of debt, suffering supply chain and labor issues, etc.

One local came in with a bid for $55,000.00 and wanted a third down, too. Nuts!

Crazy times.

For that money, it better include a fully staffed stripper pole.

I think I would be leery of paying money down to someone I didn't know personally. When I had my roof replaced after Ike, the guy that did it was referred to me by someone that used him on an ongoing basis. He wanted money down, and I told him I'd go pay for my materials directly with his chosen supply company, and pay the rest on completion of the job, which took 3 days. He was OK with that. I did the same thing with the painters, paid for the paint and materials directly at Sherwin Williams, but I think I paid them a draw or two during the work. The draw was paid AFTER work was done though, not before. I'd feel uncomfortable about paying someone who hasn't yet done anything.

If you can't, or won't, front the actual labor, I find that a little suspect. Maybe that's too much to expect with a longer job, I don't know.

To me it seems contractors are looking to make a killing on every sale.
Definitely will cost more going thru a large company advertised all over.
I forget how much datawiz said ths estimate was to replace his screen in thing.

I am always leary about any large deposits required, show up before start working you get some rest when complete. No way I'm laying out half months in advance, too many stories on news people getting burned.

I can’t wait for my generator quote tomorrow morning. 320
gal propane installation quote came in at $4,400. They don’t have any 500 gal.

Getting a solar + pwrcell quote just for the hell of it hoping Biden pays 30%. Looks like the greeny subsidies only help high income tax people.

~20 years ago I used to work for an outfit called Handyman Connection....one of the guys said he needs help to tear down a glass room....OK, he just give me the glass room for payment....so we load it up and drop off on side of my house.....16x12 size, glass roof, curved on far end, two sliding doors and slider windows....

Enlarged the slab outside the sliding kitchen door....tied it into the roof line, tiled the floor.....total cost maybe a week's worth of work, and about 400 bux....

Let me take a stab at it....$ 35,000 for something that at the most optimistic, will barely cover your highest month's electricity use, but in practice, probably won't.

You'll get a 30% tax credit (write off on your income tax), but you'll have to wait to benefit from that, of course. That will leave you with around $ 24,500, which they'll gladly finance for you.

There will be some sort of warranty offered, which doesn't cover the system losing performance as it ages, only catastrophic failure, so in 10 years, that battery won't hold a charge like it did when they installed it, and in 11 years, when it totally fails.....sorry. You might get a longer guarantee on the panels, but again, their performance dropping off isn't a warranty issue. And of course, the company can always go out of business and change names, and then there's no warranty.

Meanwhile, the cost of your homeowner's insurance increases to reflect the increased value of your home, and, not sure about LA, but your property taxes might increase as well, although the property tax in Louisiana is incredibly cheap.

Let me know how I did.

240v, 15 panel, 8 LiPo batteries, inverter, and chargers are 15k.

Do it yourself.

I am having a 22kw generator installed in Jan finally. 10.2k with me supplying the in ground LP tank. 1500 for the tank, lines, regulator and I will rent the excavator to dig the hole.

I just subbed out/installed a generator on my own, the quotes were all north of $13k. I got the job done better for about $11k including the cost of the generator. If you go Solar you’ll still need a generator during a long term outage.

My electricity went up this year.....$ .09/kWh to $ .106/kWh. Part of that is Brandon's fault, but a significant part of the problem is our Gov. Abbott's Public Utility Commission appointments who screwed every single Texas electricity consumer.

Oh, and I have gas heat, so my gas bill WILL be up 50+%. Thankfully we don't have much of a Winter here.

I was 90’ of trenching for the natural gas and about 12’ for electric. 16k seems reallly high.

Same for NG and Electric, ~100’ hand dug w 2 sidewalks. New sub panel etc….

Other 2 quotes were ~$16k and I had to contract gas for ~$4k+

Went w Canter who actually installs for HD, which they mark up 20%
