I hate fish.

I really hate fish. I remember eating that crap when I was a kid and being completely grossed out.

Except Long Johns Silvers. I love that shit. But that's not really fish and I digress.

However...

Since I have live in the keys, I have eaten fish prepared by my neighbors that is actually really good. I ate Mahi a few weeks ago and it was not bad. It was coated with a little breading and fried with garlic. I ate it and enjoyed it.

On my birthday, we caught a shitload of mangrove snapper and I was loaded enough to eat it when we got back. It - again - was pretty good.

Tonight we had dinner at some friends on the island and again had Mahi (they caught 45 of them Sunday). I really enjoyed it.

So I don't know what to think. Either Mom was a shit cook, or my taste have changed.

I'm still not eating any catfish though....

Fresh fish is a whole lot better than that crap at a grocery store. Especially lobster, ive never had a better lobster than the ones that I caught.

I know some folks who swear they would never like mullet change their minds when they taste what I pull out of the Sound and fry up immediately.

Fresh fish (the fresher the better) is just out of this world.

Tastes change as we grow ( age ). Plus, a properly prepared meal tastes great. Nothing beats fresh food.

As far as catfish, up north here, catfish are their best in the spring. A much cleaner tasting meat then.

I didn't like fish growing up either but I think it was because it was always baked haddock. I love grilled fish, stripers, blackfish, even bluefish if prepared properly. I catch and release most of the time but I usually keep about 3-4 fish a season for the grill.
mmmm striper!

We don't eat Mullet here on the Texas coast, we catch them and use them for cut bait. I did sell a bunch of mullet that I caught by foul hooking them off a dock down at South Padre. Stupid assed yankme snowbird was drooling for those nasty bastards.

Chilean Sea Bass is about the only fish I ever ate that I liked.
You get great looks at the fish market from people when you buy it also.
I've eaten all kinds of fresh fish and it's just not a taste I'm fond of.

Filet O' Fish at McDonalds is damn tasty though once in a while. :yum: :hide:
