The good news is the value of the information they're trying to relay is not lessened by that because it was of no value to begin with. Zero plus zero still equals zero.

"My brake pads need replaced."
I'm VERY guilty of this sentence structure.
My house needs painted.
My grass needs watered.
I know it's wrong, but a lifetime of wrong is hard to get away from.

:yesnod: My best friend and I communicate in a kind of keystroke saving short hand. No "Y" for why or "U" for you or other "texting" stuff but we leave out complete words that are understood. We sometimes use "prolly" but more to be intentionally incorrect that anything.
"Prolly" doesn't bother me as much as people using "then" instead of "than". My inner snide is very offended by that.

Paint your house and water your grass and you won't have to be wrong anymore!
