no time to inspect and fix it before the race?!

just tuned in, and i see that they are fixing the track. ummm....couldn't we do that before the race started? they put in a new field for the super bowl, basketball courts are regularly replaced. new pitches for soccer before big matches....only NASCAR puts their show on TV racing on a ragged out track.

where did all that TV money go?

I was never a fan but you can’t help but know about NASCAR. I can’t think of any motorsport that took a bigger -and faster- downward turn than NASCAR. It was seemingly everywhere, then suddenly nowhere and everyone hated it.

Before TV, it was a southern thing. Go outside to wash the car or work on it and turn on the radio to listen to the race. My dad started taking us to the July, race in Daytona Beach, FL. in the early '70s. Richard Petty, Cale Yarbrough, Allison Bros., David Pearson, etc...no cool suits, power steering, cookie cutter spec cars for everyone to parade around in like today. THEY RACED! Side by side, front to back, 3-4 wide. You built a car and brought it to race. Not just to parade around like today. The teams made money only racing and winning. No souvenirs, diecast deals, licensing deals, etc...I remember one of the first times they started selling t-shirts was for the Skoal Bandit. Dale Earnhardt was the first to start selling his name for endorsement deals - shirts, hats, and finally the mega-million diecast deals.

Drivers and crews would stay in the same hotels as the rest of us. I remember riding the elevator with several in the old days. You would go into a restaurant and one or more would be a the table beside of you.

I enjoyed it from the '70s-1980ish and lost interest. Then, started getting into it again from about 1998-2005. Lost all interest after that. They don't race anymore. Plenty are out there just to run around for several hrs., advertising their sponsors. They drive fast...they just don't race though. I also could no longer identify with their $30 million a yr., incomes.

I was also a huge fan of F1, NHRA, ALMS, and a couple others. They have ruined those series almost as badly, as NASCRAP. I don't follow any of it anymore and for almost the last decade.

I'm sure NASCAR is making tons of money off their only remaining demographic, black nationalists who hate America, hate white people, and apparently hate paying for merchandise when they can just steal it.

NASCAR should be rolling in the dough, now that they've rid themselves of all those beer swilling, Confederate flag waving good ol' boys that used to be their fanbase.

Probably in the minority here, but this season NASCAR has been more interesting for me than the previous ten. The 1.5 mile tri-ovals are still a bore fest. But, they competed on dirt, have added more road courses and actually put racing back in the mix. I still don't like the "playoff" format for racing. Every other series I know of, even the ones I raced, are based on a long campaign of strong racing. That is a really hard thing to do and should be the mark of a champion.

somehow, F1 manages to get their entire race done in under 2 hours. 3 hours is a big ask for boring racing. and even then, I tape the F1 race, watch the first few laps, fast forward thru the middle parts, only stopping if there was a lead change or accident, and then watch the last 5-10 laps. it's also a parade, but it's a shorter parade.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is owned by Bruton Smith (Speedway Motorsports) who is worth about $1 billion. Do you really think he and his company would not have fixed the track prior to the race had the damage been present then? This isn't the first time a piece of the track came up during a race.

Suddenly, though, a series of dramatic shifts in NASCAR’s schedule, as well as the ban of the Confederate flag at races, have provided stock car racing the fresh start it’s been looking for.

“What we saw with the banning of the Confederate flag and the rallying of the industry at Talladega around Bubba Wallace, we saw our percentages for the African American demographic double to 6% for the races that followed,” said Brian Herbst, NASCAR's senior vice president of broadcast and media.

I'd like to see that graph continue to reflect last year and this year, when most of those professional sports leagues adopted Marxism and anti-White racism as their cause de jour.

You would think that the NBA and NFL particularly, but also MLB would have ratings plummeting after attacking their non communist White fans.

Disputing what, exactly, that NASCAR's TV ratings overall have decreased over 40% since 2006? That NASCAR's audience among black viewers has doubled (from 3% to 6%, WOOHOO!) or that NASCAR's TV ratings have "stabilized" according to the first link you posted? That's like saying someone is in the ICU with major heart damage but they're stable.

Hell, their two marque events; the Daytona 500 and Bristol night race; used to be sold out long in advance with tickets on the aftermarket commanding very high prices. Those races have empty seats now, and the stands at many other tracks, especially the cookie-cutter 1.5 mile ovals, aren't even half full.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. NASCAR is doing some tweaking around the edges, along with going full-on woke, but it's going to take a LOT more changes to get me and many other long-time fans interested again.

The ploy worked perfectly for 'hangnoose' Wallace. He got the press and now he has the sponsors. I stopped watching NASCAR during the in-your-face woke period. I tune in and drink a few beers if nothing else is happenin'.

Last race I attended was Michigan a few years ago. Sears point was a great time camping out with friends getting shit faced on Jäger 20 years ago.

Night race at Bristol tickets 10 to 15 years ago were unattainable.
Every track has removed thousands of seats because empty stands don't look good on tv and sponsors don't like it, Charlotte removed what 20k seats may been alot more.

We used to go to the Bristol night race every year. Expensive tickets, no hotel rooms anywhere near Bristol, horrible traffic. Those tickets are face value now and lots of empty seats. We used to go to 2-3 races every year; haven't been to one for at least 5 or 6 years and won't until they fix what's broken - which I hold out no hope of happening.

NASCAR brass hired several NBA media people a few yrs., ago to try and grow the fan base. They are the ones that started all the diversity crap....a racer of every color, gender, and county on earth was their goal. It has failed miserably. Every track is tearing out thousands of seats. It's not about racing. It's an entertainment circus. If you want to see racing go to a local hobby track - drag racing, dirt track, etc...

they know most of their money is from TV, but they still run the show for the fan in the seat.

take a look at F1, they put on their show for TV. if someone shows up and cheers, great, but it's a TV event. it starts on time, is done in under 2 hours, rain or shine.

but no....they are stuck on stupid. they let the local track dictate the show, the pre-race drags on and on, WAY too much talking. and the 'segment' racing is BS. just put on 3 races, 50, 50, and 100 laps. top 10 from each 50 lapper move on to the 100 lap final. reverse grid it to add some excitement.
