Gotta have my knee scoped in the morn, pretty simple procedure, but I'm not at all looking forward to even just a few days of downtime!! Guess I will see how long it will take to burn thru a 100k in bb!!

Just some advice... have lots of ice on hand as your little refrig ice maker thingy might not be sufficient and some extra pillows you can get to. Now for the hospital part, make sure they label the correct body part so you don't find out that they scoped the wrong thing, ask tons of questions and make sure that the person with your does the same. You and the person that is with you need to be your advocate and no question is ever too stupid to ask.
Best of luck on your procedure.

:iagree: When I had my left knee reconstructed, they had me write NO in magic marker on my right knee. :yesnod:

Also, more info on the ice part. Use plenty of ice to reduce swelling. If you can reduce the swelling, you will almost eliminate pain ( greatly reduced anyway).

one more--- follow your physical therapy exactly. the people know what they're doing.

Good luck

So very well said in this day and age! The only thing that I would advise other than what you said is to have a couple of people taking notes with date and time.

CMB, the very best of luck to you--I am sure everything will be fine.

Thank ya c5Lady!! That's funny about the marking, I did that for my ACL reconstruction a few years ago, and they had me down for the wrong ACL to be replaced, but I had a smiley face on my good knee and a frown on my bad one!!
I still have my cryo cuff from that, so I'll see if I can use that, but I will have my wife pick up a bag o ice too! Thanks again!!

Hope it turns out well. Just to let you know, I have a Buck knife, some safety wire, and a Mag light. That being said, I'll take a look at it for ten bucks. Oh, no medical experience either, so that should put me in the running to perform surgery...right????

I'm home now, actually got home a while ago. Everything went fine, for the most part. Between the time I had my MRI and now, I managed to completely tear my meniscus in two, so they took it out completely, which I was not prepared for!!
I'm a little dissapointed with my doc, he only spoke to me right after I came to, just to tell me that he took it out, and I was not quite coherent enough to ask the questions that I wanted to, he will be getting a call first thing tommorrow!!

As for the pain, it really does not hurt, hopefully it stays that way. I have been using crutches, but have put full weight on my leg without them, and it seems fine. I have not attempted to bend it, but have engaged my quad muscles, and calf muscles without any pain. I do not want to get any atrophy. Anyhow, it went well, I guess, minus the taking out of the meniscus, but I guess there was not a choice.

Looks like I might have to be remodeling my lifestyle to deal with it. I just wonder how, wakeboarding, snow skiing, running, and all of the explosion agility jumping and plyometrics I do will be affected??

I would think that they might have cut part of it, but I hope they did not totally remove it. That is the main cushion between the bones.

He probably just cut the floating pice off, you know, "Removed your flap".

Let us know what the Dr says after you talk to him.

Yea Omega that's what I would have liked, but it was a complete tear from front to rear.

That's what worries me so much, I know it's what cushions your knee. It sucks b/c I am a VERY active person. I work as a personal trainer, do all kinds of outdoor running and such, and the shit you cant do goes on and on!!

From what I have read, arthritis is guaranteed, and in most instances, a full knee replacement will be needed. I'm only 32, really don't wanna be dealing with shit like that...maybe I'm overreacting!!:willy:

Well, don't freak out. Just take some pain meds and watch a Womens Lacrosse game and enjoy the legs.

The pain will arrive - you're on some good post op meds so far. I do hope they prescribed some Vikes for tomorrow morning.

As for all the exercise, that high impact stuff is prolly what torched the meniscus in the first place. You just lost all the cushion between the femur and the tibia. I found that for me - running is out, snow skiing was tough because the joint was kinda loose feeling, I had to give up racquetball and tennis as well. Anything that pounds the joint, for me, causes swelling and discomfort.

Welcome to getting old and living with ice and Advil.

They gave me a script of hydracodone, which puts me on my ass b/c I never take any kind of pain stuff.

And you're right Bucky, I know it's the stuff I've been doing for years that has put me here!!:(

Same thing happened on mine, went in for a "bucket tear" repair and found it was gone. They did a micro-fracture procedure on mine, involves cutting away the damaged cartilage as well and drilling holes in the head of the femur which allows the marrow to leak out forming a temporary cartilage plug that lasts for a few years. Bought me some time before replacement.

Good luck with it.

Dear Lord, look down on cmb396 during his procedure and afterwards as he recovers. Help him entrust himself completely to your care.

Guide with wisdom and skill the minds and hands of the medical people who minister in your Name and help them as they remove every cause of injury and defect in his knee.

May he be restored to soundness of health and learn to live in more perfect harmony with you and those around him.

Through the resurrecting power of Jesus Christ we pray these things be done. Amen.
