Got me thinking. If you guys could get a ride in a F-22 or a P-51, what would it be? Hands down the P-51 for me. Just raw mechanical shit there...Plus, the sound of that V-12 Merlin engine.:seasix:

I got to ride in a B-1B when I crewed them. Terrain following would have been the shit, but we couldn't get cleared to do low level the day I flew. I've been supersonic, and it was totally uneventful. The aircraft buffets a little when it comes back through the sound barrier, and that is the extent of it. At altitude, speed just can't be felt. And yes, I do have video...:seasix:

First a P50 Warhawk only because I have always thought it was such a cool plane....then a F18 because my friend was a F18 fighter pilot.I know these were not on original list :woohoo:

I already had a ride in a P-51 so I’ll take the F-22 and a barf bag. I’m actually hoping to still be around when space flights open to the public for under 100 grand.

Trick question - both planes are single seaters.
And regarding the Concorde - all seats are the same on that plane, no classes. I've flown on BA Concords many times for work.

here's the original pic if anyone wants it. I took it at the Jones Beach Air Show many years ago. I was standing on the beach with a canon 40D and 70-200 F4L.

The P-51 I flew in at an air show in S. Lake Tahoe was modified with a back seat for passengers. The ride funds helped pay for maintaining the aircraft.
Found my t-shirt with ghost squadron Cafsocal printed on it. Looks like they no longer have the P-51.
Man O’ War is a P-51D Mustang converted to a two seat configuration and was stationed at the Southern California Commemorative Air Force for about 10 years. You may have seen her or even taken a ride in this in this iconic WWII fighter.

Not entirely true. Some P-51s are retrofits that added a back seat. See below. Other than that, after having significant seat and sim time in F-15s, I can tell you that supersonic flight is absolutely boring. However, high-G maneuvering and combat take-offs and landings are NOT boring. Been at 9+ Gs during BFM, and that definitely makes you tired...but damn does it change your life outlook.

While 100% true, there are several P-51's with a back seat now, but you already know that. F-22 though, we are SOL on.

There is one group that is flying this year and you can buy a $$$$ Mustang flight. You can't buy a F-22 flight.
Uncle was a P-38 pilot in the Pacific. I could listen to his stories all day long. Some are in the history books. He took my aunt up in one that had all the old radio equip. removed and she hated it. LOL

Most of the remaining P-51's have had the TF conversion to make them two seats. Once the huge stock radio rack is removed, there's plenty of room behind the pilot for a seat and dual controls if wanted.
There's a least a few two seat versions of the F-22 out there also. Of those two the F-22 gets my vote, as long as Max Moga is flying it.

Now this would be my first choice too. I worked a program to refit the AN/ALQ 161 and it's the most beautiful plane ever IMHO. My second choice would be this....

late 80s / early 90s I was racing go karts. One of the guys was Naval Reserve and they had a P-51 in his squadron. He "missed" the races one Sunday to be at The Reading PA air show.
He promised that when he took out the P-51, he'd "buzz the track".
He did go over the track at about 500 feet. The roar from the engine was extremely impressive ( and would be scary as hell if you were the enemy).
After he went over the track, he applied throttle and climbed. He then "nosed over" and was ready to a proper buzzing of the track. As he started the dive, my former FIL saw what he was going to do and started to run but quickly stopped while muttering "I'm ****ed"
He buzzed the track at about 75 to 100' and the poor ladies in the scoring stand had no idea what was happening as their backs were towards the plane until he roared over.
He gained altitude and went back to the air show. :cool1:

That F-4 is incredible.
I also wouldn't mind a ride in a Thunderchief.

In 1992, I was working on a program at Edwards AFB in California doing a re-fit of the avionics suite for the B1-B. We split our time between the flight line at Edwards and a facility off-base in Palmdale known as U.S. Air Force Plant 42. There are several military contractors there. The B1 Pilot for our program was a LtC from Dyess AFB in Abilene. Forgot his name, but he was a real cowboy. Hysterically funny.
He'd tell us when he was going to do "touch-and-go's" at the plant and we'd go sit at the end of the runway to watch. Anyone who's seen that knows that probably the only aircraft louder on takeoff than a B1 is the SR-71. Every time, he'd bank hard right and intentionally fly over the Northrop parking lot to set off the car alarms. Over and over again. Us contractors and the Rockwell guys would pee in our pants laughing when we'd see the Northrop guys out there giving him the finger.
Good times in the High Desert.

That was the other reason that I didn't book that flight! Ended up flying a 747, in first class, to Amsterdam.
F-22, have been an admirer of that air frame for some time now.
I actually had an opportunity to touch one. There's one hanging over me every day.:D

That could very well be Shopped. I was at the first public flight of the F-22 at Edwards and got to talk to the test pilots for the program for over an hour. At the time they said a two seat version was planned for some limited roles. It was after that the program was killed as the F-35 was searching for money for their program, so it's a good chance it never happened.
Since everybody is listing aircraft not mentioned in the original post, I'll throw in the aircraft I most wanted a flight in was Griffon-powered Superstang "Precious Metal". If the cameras behind the pilot were taken out and weight added to the nose I could fit there, but only 3 people have ever flown it and rides will never happen in it.

Yeah, no such tail number exists...certainly not out at Nellis.

I agree. Such an outstanding aircraft. I saw Max's demo show a bunch of times. Near the end of his run as Demo Pilot I asked him why the show didn't seem nearly as aggressive as it had been. He bluntly told me that they were showing far too much of the airframe's capability by doing the old show. Around the same time pretty much every video of the older shows vanished off the internet too. The original demo was mind-blowing. Airplanes aren't supposed to do that.
