It's cuz their online hosts didn't continue to feed the barn bucks.
The deals allegedly included a $10 million investment in a private Utah bank that gave the poker companies more than a 30 percent ownership stake, prosecutors said.

So, when the government promotes gambling via lotteries, that's great, but when private citizens try to horn in on the government's action, well, that's a crime and those people must be punished.

your average lottery is a complete ripoff for players. about 1/2 the pot is set aside for some budget item, then they pick a winner, and offer him the jackpot over 20-30 years, or a hugely discounted lump sum upfront. and then they tax that as income. greedy bastards.
