I'm pretty familiar with the technology. What is the draw in a fairly advanced network area? I understand wanting the service in mid-Africa, but why in the US?

Fiber = no
DSL = no
Cable = no
Dial up = no
ViaSat and Hughesnet are painful as they are 22,000 miles in space in a geosynchronous orbit.
500ms latency and one or two spacecraft.
Starlink is 300 miles and over 100 spacecraft.
Less latency and more speed.

That was the answer I expected, but I'll wait to spend some money on the IPO. It will be interesting to see what the market is CONUS.
Our community just paid some reasonably big money to get fiber laid.

I hope for that kind of money the fiber got to snort coke off the hooker's ass, too.

There are currently 1,280 satellites in low Earth orbit. What's another 12,000? :lol:

Mid to late 2021 here.
$588 equipment fee and $99/mo for service.
We have a shitty ISP and people complain constantly...but it will be interesting to see how much of a dent Starlink puts in their customer base.

Is there any reason or benefit to pre-order if there’s not reliable coverage yet?

Elon can use your money for a few months?
Probably gets you in line for the equipment to get shipped sooner.
If you don't, the demand could be higher and take longer to get it?
