View Full Version : Masks required even after getting the vaccine?!?!WTH!!!

As presented to us at work citing the Mayo clinic and the CDC as sources.
They just never want it to end.
Myth: If you get a COVID-19 vaccine, you won’t need to wear a mask and can safely return to pre-COVID levels of interaction with others.
Fact: While the vaccine may prevent you from getting sick, it is unknown at this time if you can still carry and transmit the virus to others. Guidance is, therefore, to continue to wear masks and practice all other safety protocols such as safe distancing, frequent hand-washing, and existing remote work policies.

I suspect there's a lot of people getting a kick/rush out of dictating to others what they can/cannot do.
For those types... they never want it to end.

This country has done a horrible job rolling this vax out and educating people about it.
Here’s what needs to be understood. The vax does not make you immune to covid. You will still get it and pass it to others. The vax will prevent you from getting as sick as you would without it. In some ways, it is more of a therapeutic. It does not work the same way that, for example, the smallpox vax does. This virus is going to be around a very long time.

well how about finding out if that is true or not? :slap:

If I have to where these stupid masks eveyrwhere even after getting the vaccine, well then why get the vaccine. Think I'll opt for the God given immunity system I already have.

The first shot is something like 50% effective too, the second puts it up over 90%.
Saw an article that said that they are doing a study on a 3rd dose of one of the vaccines.
Masks aren't going away anytime soon.

MINE is.
Manager at Publix yesterdaay asked me if I had a mask.
"No. I'm just hear to pick up a few items along with those other un-masked people."
Manager: Well, we require it
Me: No you don't or I wouldn't be singled out
Manager, well it's for safety and blah blah blah
Me: Well, if that was true, you'd also be six feet away from me wearing your mask over your mouth and nose."
So I go to check out behind that all too effective piece of plexiglass, but have to stand to the side of it to use my debit card
Manager comes up to me again and says I really need to wear a mask because blah blah blah.
I point out to him that there are multiple customers nearby without them and he is being paid to run a grocery store....not to be a public health official which he clearly is not qualified to do either the same as them. Mother****er was fuming and I could see people snickering at him as I turned around to leave. Yep, I did contact Publix corporate but got no answer back. Typical.

everytime mask requirements increased in my state... it was followed 10 days later by news of... record set for new cases.
Governor increases mask wearing requirement due to this increase; and people wearing increased. 8-10 days later: new cases now at all time high.
Again the governor increases mask requirements; and I could see the increase of mask wearers. 8-10 days later: new cases higher than ever before
Governor makes statewide mask requirement; and I witness that 98% of people now wearing masks. 8-10 days later: new cases reach highest level than ever before.
and yet another 8-10 days later: new cases increase at alarming rate.
What does this data tell us about the need for masks

Can face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19? Yes, face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as frequent hand-washing and social distancing, help slow the spread of the virus.
So why weren't face masks recommended at the start of the pandemic? At that time, experts didn't know the extent to which people with COVID-19 could spread the virus before symptoms appeared. Nor was it known that some people have COVID-19 but don't have any symptoms. Both groups can unknowingly spread the virus to others.
These discoveries led public health groups to do an about-face on face masks. The World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now include face masks in their recommendations for slowing the spread of the virus. The CDC recommends cloth face masks for the public and not the surgical and N95 masks needed by health care providers.

Nah, there are lots of other facts and data to support the same narrative. Like the inconvenient fact that states like CA and NY with the longest mask mandates and tightest lockdowns have the highest case and death rates, while states with no lockdowns or mask mandates have much lower case and death rates. How is that possible if masks and lockdowns slow the spread?
It's becoming quite clear that the "experts" (quotes used for a reason) want mask mandates for at least this year, and perhaps well into the future, if not forever. Are you okay with that? I'm not.

Take that attitude and throw it into population density of the two places you mentioned and there will be issues.
Lockdowns in California happened when the numbers were not manageable.
Almost everything was open as numbers skyrocketed but I’m sure you’re aware of that.

The whole idea of mask wearing doing anything good is based on a flawed premise, basically that one way or another, I'm going to spit on you if I don't have a mask. EVERY one of the videos showing the "effectiveness" of a mask shows a person blowing the biggest sneeze they can muster directly out into the air, and the mask reduces the plume of saliva/phlegm by maybe 50%. OK, but in 10 months of mask wearing, I have yet to see a single person sneeze like that. Phred even said if he had a big sneeze, he would be "stupid" to sneeze in his mask, so then, what's the point?
Also, this mask wearing idea is often supported by the idea that wearing pants prevents me from pissing on other people, as well as prevents other people from pissing on me. I'm pretty sure that if I wanted to piss on someone, I could easily accomplish that with my pants firmly in place, and that any other man could piss on me without removing his pants.
The above is pretty much the "state of the art" of mask wearing arguments.
So keeping people away from each other doesn’t slow the spread of an infectious disease.....is that what your going with?
I don't know about Steve, but yes, I'm going with that. Read up on the Spanish Flu. Remote islands closed their islands to all visitors when the flu reached pandemic levels. Somehow, some months later, with no visitors whatsoever, people on the islands hundreds of miles from any areas with infected people, got infected people. Staying six feet from an infected person doesn't do shit.
The reality is a cloth mask doesn't do shit. Staying 6 feet away from other people doesn't do shit. Washing your hands frequently helps a little. But for many centuries now, the most important thing to do to minimize the spread of flus and other viruses has not changed, and it still hasn't changed due to COVID: if you are sick , stay home.

This is the equivalent to my joke post the other day. I'm prepping to begin thinking about starting to install a generator.
It says all those things listed TOGETHER "help" to slow the spread. They don't slow the spread, but they help to slow the spread. These are purposely chosen words that at a glance and without a lot of thought, say one thing, but under scrutiny, say nothing.

sounds like our idiot governor. law gives her permission to declare an emergency for 30 days. but gives her too much latitude to keep extending it, indefinitely. so hopefully the legislature will revise that and reign her in a bit. Unless I misread, I think DJ's point of him being singled out for not wearing a mask when several others weren't was his complaint. If there's a mandate, fine. It's the law so you wear a mask. But if you're going to hold one accountable, hold all accountable.
He was not specific as to whether there was a mandate in his state.

Did the Ark carry two of every animal during a downpour. That’s written down too somewhere so it must be a fact? I could find thousands of sites stating the earth is flat so that must be a fact too?
If gathering large amounts of people into a congested area causes greater numbers to be affected, does it not make sense that keeping those same people apart would slow it down?
Sorry you have so little faith in your government to think that there is some power trip happening rather than looking out for your best interests.
Cases rise shortly after holidays thanks to large family gatherings.
Is the above statement fact? Is it “so they say”
If power over people is their end game like some think here why hasn’t Sweden been blown to bits because clearly they ignored the memo.

With all due respect DJ, I did not miss the point and I certainly do not need anyone to "splain" anything to me that might be said by you.
If the state you are in has a mask mandate like ours then it is not out of line to have a sign on the door saying you need a mask to enter or that a manager or employee of the store say something to someone that is not wearing one...unless of course you have a medical condition that dictates you can not wear one.Personally I think it's easier to wear the mask, get your few things and leave in peace.
If having that kind of confrontation is something that makes you feel good.... then by all means.....do it.
We have no mask mandates. Everything is open and public venues are opening back up. I find it easier not to walk around with a useless mask that fogs up my glasses because some non-medical "expert" tells me I have to or I'm an asshole. I'm not going to do it. **** them. I'd say the same thing to you in the same situation :yesnod:

The flaw in this thinking is that one person, only has to encounter one other person for it to spread. It doesn't require 10 people or 20 in a room. That being said, why is a group of 9 allowed, but not 10? 9 people are sacrificial, but not 10? What would the impact of 10 people being infected vs only 9 be? What is the impact of being in a bar until 10:30 vs 10:00? How does that possibly help? Nurses are exposed daily to more than 10 people and after 10:00. There is ZERO logic that can be applied to this. It is 100% arbitrary and like I have said before, the covid boat has 50 holes in it, and plugging one or two does NOT keep the boat from sinking.
It is a power trip and the lack of logic applied to mandates CLEARLY exposes that fact...FACT. Watch how quickly we get back to business opening when the mission is a successful economy for Joebama.

It is failing. People know they have to leave at 10:00 and are simply compressing the time, not the activities or the intake.
10 minutes to 10 in a restaurant and people are ordering maragritas like they are at a Mecum auction. "Gimme 3 gimme 3 gimme 4, now 4, need 4 need 4 need 4, hey now we gotta 5 , 5 ,5 gotta 5..."

We’re not masking up or staying home and the economy is recovering pretty well - and the rate of new COVID cases and deaths, as well as hospital capacity - is way better than states that are masked up and locked down. Go figure.

All we hear in Houston is doom and gloom. If I believed all the stories, Houston would look like an episode of the Walking Dead.
We have two Demmunists running the city so there is no light at the end of the tunnel until the governor sets them straight. As red as he claims to be, he has definitely been dipping his big cup in the Kool-Aid barrel.

reminds of a story from many years ago -
i was in NYC on a job assignment, we were staying at the Hotel Pennsylvania, right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. I was walking over to Penn Station, to check on something i lost on the train (it was turned in and I got it back!!), and as i'm walking the concourse back to the hotel, there's a guy pushing this 6 foot high cart full of bagels. hundreds of bagels. well, he hit a small bump, and 2 or 3 bagels decided now was their time to escape his cart.
not
so
fast.
he spotted them, picked them up, looked at them, decided they were good enough, and put them back on the cart.
so if you had a bagel in NYC in the late 90s, there is a non-zero chance you also consumed some trace of whatever goo was on the floor in Penn Station.
:faint:
i didn't have a bagel for breakfast the next morning.

Having gone to grad school and worked in NYC for over 20 years, I can tell you one thing: Only tourists eat crap from the food carts and give money to the beggars on the streets. ANYONE who has spent half as much time in the city as I have has seen innumerable food-cart atrocities that put that one to shame, as well as having seen the same beggars "show up for work" at the same place at the same time day after day for literally years.
Don't be a putz.

Pffft. Friggen' amateurs. Any professional looter knows you go out with a stolen Ford F-250 or heavier truck to loot. Not only can you back into any door or wall to gain entry, but you've got plenty of room to carry your new shit off. Also, you can bring a chain and yank an ATM out of the base and have some spending cash to go with your new stuff. Sheesh....it's like you people have no idea how to loot properly.
