I'm renting a 2020 Camaro SS conv. My first modern sports car in quite some time. I think it has all the bells and whistles. The thing is a beast. Paddle shifters, tiptronic type, auto 10-speed trans. Awesome sound when it starts and you punch it. You have to be VERY quick to shift the trans. with the paddles or stick. Those first few gears makes it redline quickly. Four driving modes - tour, sport, track, something else that I forget. It is hard to see out of with the little windows. But, THAT MOTOR and trans!

With proper winter tires it's just as good as any other rear wheel drive car.
I run Bridgestone Blizzak DM-v2 tires and I have no issues.
I've been driving V8 powered Chargers in the winter since 2007. Proper winter tires and commons sense go a long way...

Dodge Challenger
Chrysler 300

And Toyota really isn't an import either, since they make them here too. But I still consider a Toyota an import.
To me (and most people) Ford/Chevy/Chrysler(Dodge) are domestic and everything else is an import.
Modern times the waters are very muddy.
But there's a reason the Charger/Challenger/300 say "Designed in Detroit". Because they're all built in Brampton, Ontario, a few miles form where I am sitting right now.
But y'all still call them "American" cars.

I've owned several - Fiat, VW, GM (Chev. Pontiac), BMW, Nissan/Infinity, etc...I live in a small town and the only dealer we have now and have only had for a long time is Ford. I was fairly brand loyal to Chev. until they killed off their small town dealerships. Which I still don't understand why a decade or so ago. I would still most likely be loyal to them, but if I have to travel 25 plus miles to a dealership there are too many others to choose from.

I've had several company trucks over the years. It's a nice perk. Some were such pieces of shit I wouldn't park them in the driveway. It surprised me the company would put their names on such a wreck.
The worst was a Ford Courier. The front end was so bad keeping it between the lines was almost impossible. You'd about have to turn it lock-lock just to keep it going straight. Tow a Miller Big 40 and the front end about came off the ground.
I've had some nice new ones too fully equipped with every hand tool you could ever want.

Do tell. I like that Denali. It's getting into Escalade territory but I like it.
It was my first ever brand new car, a late model 2015 Denali with the 6.2 and the 8speed transmission. The torque converter had problems throughout they replaced it at 20k miles but it was still acting up. The A/C failed at 48k miles and that was the final straw for me.
Other failures, leaking/failed radio antenna, failed window regulator, rattle in dash, lots of visits for the torque converter vibrations, awful GM service locally given the price of the truck I would have expected better service throughout.
Burro (He/Haw)
01-13-2021, 2:53pm
I think that 8 speed transmission is a POS. I had mine in at 4000 miles for some torque converter chattering. They’re claiming it was some fluid recall thing and they’re on their third blend. It’s been OK since the fluid change. That was 35,000 ago so maybe.

I think that 8 speed transmission is a POS. I had mine in at 4000 miles for some torque converter chattering. They’re claiming it was some fluid recall thing and they’re on their third blend. It’s been OK since the fluid change. That was 35,000 ago so maybe.
I have read about those 8 speed auto trans......hoo makes them?? GM??
and I have to ask why??? 4 speeds with O/D seems like enuff........
:issues:

:issues:It was all done for maximum fuel economy and there were issues with the 8 speed autos.

I took the 'Mero into the dealer because of the transmission. They couldn't find an issue with it.
Loved the car, would buy another one, but not with an automatic.
Daily 2018 Jeep Trackhawk, if I can keep the foot out of it MPG isn't too bad. But that 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds, I just can't.
Used to be brand loyal to GM, it will be a long cold day in hell before I give my good money to that bunch of criminals.
Wife's 2008 TrailBlazer SS, 23,000 on the odometer and we have the 2019 Ford Transit Connect for carrying the Berners around, it is their van.

Didn't GM design the 8 speed and Ford the 10 speed. I heard the story Ford saw what GM was doing and walked away from the deal. Both GM 8 speeds I had, one in the Denali and one in the 17 V, were total pieces of shit. The 8 speed in the Hawk has been great.

Does it still have the delivery plastic on the seats and steering wheel?

FCA's 8 speed transmission rocks. :yesnod: It was in my '19 RAM 1500 and it is in the Gladiator.

HIGHLY recommend a 6th gen with a manual. I LOVE mine.

My BIL has a '17 V6 stick. He loves his, and especially loves the fact that his kids can't drive it. :funnier:

Absolutely. Not only that it's theft proof. :Jeff '79:
Even the idiots at the dealership struggle with it.
My Camaro is an automatic. :(
It just appeared on a dealers lot, and it ticked most of the boxes.
I'd have preferred no sunroof and a manual, but I bought it...thinking the wife could drive it on occasion (she wasn't great with the MN6 in the C5). I think she has driven it twice in the 5 or 6 years I've had it.
I've already told her that whatever catches my eye next will likely have a manual.

The six speed we owned was her car. She could shift smoother than I could.
One thing I didn't care for was the shift-skip. There was no way to defeat this without some sort of aftermarket thing. It wouldn't engage under hard acceleration but it was hard to avoid at times.

My wife can do it, she was a farm kid.
But she couldn't get over the habit of leaving her foot on the clutch.
"but I'm not touching it!"
It was a point of contention.

Think that's discomfiting? I had a roommate in college that drove a Valiant, an auto. Right foot? Accelerator. Left foot? Brake. He was from Oklahoma, so I figure maybe that's what they teach them up there.
Aaaarrrrggghhh!

My mom has driven that way her entire life.

I had the dealer install the after market mod in both C5's and never had a problem. Worked flawless all the time :seasix:

I did the CAGS delete and column lock bypass on my C5 immediately.
C5Gen did have some redeeming qualities back in the day.
