I don't ever paint brick if hasn't been painted already.
I'll cover it up first. Just my 2 cents as no going back. I've seen people paint fireplaces before, seldom looks good in persom I think.
Call the guy.....to rip it out...not paint it
not a fan of painted brick.
that looks like some rookie gave it a half assed attempt, and some later flaked off.
exterior bricks need to breathe, if you paint them, they can't and later the paint will fail.

Friend remodded a red brick house with the same treatment. Added wood shudders. Looks great, trick is to not go too heavy on it.

It's actually not paint guys, white mortar is used to get the look.
I LOVE the look, I think it is timeless.
This was one they did one the outside of a house on the show fixer upper!!! LOVE this look.

They use mortar (white). I agree, would never paint.

It's a really nice look when done right IMO.
When I was remodeling one of our rental properties I kept the brick in the kitchen exposed and it looks fantastic.
It does make some dust so I've been pondering doing something with it. I've considered a smear effect or doing a clear coat over the top. :waiting:

Exactly! His was a old '70s house with red colored brick. It looks so modern now with the same upgrades. Completely different than any others around.

The great thing about using mortar, it doesn't need to sealed, even if used exteriorly.
I have done it before on smaller projects in flip houses and people love it. If they only knew how affordabe and easy it was to do. :hurray:

And it will last forever, unlike painting brick which will need to be repeated. :hurray:

Age 76, house I got older in was white painted brick, green shutters, center hall colonial....Dad painted it once that I remember......last screen shot of the house on the .net it's still white....BUT the slate roof is now shingles....how in HELL anyone be that stupid???
Like my house the guy uphill from me is just cinder block covered by stucco in a brick pattern....well done.....but he has stained his pattern a dark red, and did a fine job of it....took over 2 weeks, but no goofs in the fake mortar lines....
MY stucco with the same fake brick lines is all hollow sounding in the front of the house.....lovely....facing west.....the shutters rotted out so I took them down and noticed an extensive hollow sound to the mortar......lovely....:issues:

Actually, “so 1700’s”. But you knew that since that was the century you were born.

I even dig it as a wall.
In this example, they used the fake brick paneling and mortar washed it.
Not to shabby!

My wife is German, so I asked her if she'd like to do a German smear - she slapped my face and left the house. :confused5:
