Seems the biggest names (of today) played econo guitars, and nothing fancy or expensive...bare basics with maybe a pedal.
Today a kid may get a $5k+ custom shop, 80 pedals, and a boutique modeling amp. :island14:

True, but prices really didn't start going mental until somewhat recently either. Pre-CBS Strats weren't really worth all that much and the '59 Burst? Gibson couldn't give them away.

True.
Digital info/communication/internet allows us to know what everybody and their brother is doing or has.
Back then; mind your own biz and do your thing with what you have.
Look at the other bass in the photo with Jimi.
An Ampeg scroll bass.
Nothing high dollar (back then).

What get's me are all the signature models available these days. Who *doesn't* have one? And lets say you're a bar gig player. Could you stand in front of an audience with an EVH, bullseye Zakk Wylde or JEM? HELL no.

My cousin bought a Nita Strauss signature guitar and had her sign it at a concert.
WTF does that ??? :spdchk:

Signature models and all the reissues. :spdchk:
And who would know?...the drunk 5 tooth cig smoking skank?
Would the CS 59 reissue sound better in a dive?
I jammed a kids blue Squire Strat for a New Years party that broke out at a gumbo invite....action was a little high (and a few people), but it jammed...for a $120. Strat Pak®
They didn't care back in the day, just make music and "have fun with what we have."

I guess I can't say I've heard of her. I do like her guitar however. $1400.00 for basically an S Series. Ibanez makes some incredible guitars for well under $1k.

Funny this comes up. Went to church last Sunday for first time in a couple years. They always have a kick ass band. This time they had a bunch of new players. Among them Grandpa Burnout on guitar.
He has some fancy expensive custom job with gold hardware and a cabinet with head boutique amp. Even Jesus himself would have bum rushed him out of a gig. He was turrible. Just turrible.
His tone was reminiscent of a cat being skinned alive.
But he had about $15k worth of shit. I can always tell who sucks. If they are older and have big heavy gear, they will suck. The worship leader came and found me and said “what do you think of the guitar player. He is my neighbor. Is he amazing or what?!”
Me: yeah. Really unique. No I do not want to be in the band.

Yep. Saw her with AC about three years ago. She's a great musician and a fun performer to watch.
