I've got to be one of few who isn't happy with his Stihl string trimmer. It's hard to start, but even worse is the constant beaking of string inside the head. I'm using fresh Stihl brand string, and I've even had the dealer install it, but it still breaks regularly. If you have a Stihl, you know it's a bitch to replace the string or to stop and remove the head to pull out more string.

I've seen lots of string replacements advertised, from lengths of plastic that look like a bicycle chain to steel tines. Most of them seem like gimmicks to me, but is there a good replacement for string? Also, since Stihl doesn't sell a brush blade for it, do you know of one that will fit?

I am surprised someone hasn't made Kevlar weed eater string.

Homo Depot sells a ribbed line that is a little stronger than the regular stuff.

I've seen that. Although I haven't tried it, I think my problem is with the weed whacker itself. I can use it for a few minutes, and one of the strings breaks inside the head. I was wondering if a replacement is made that does away with string (and that works).
